Where to dine very late Saturday afternoon NYC

Not sure if this is the right forum so please move if necessary.

I am going to NY in a couple weeks to see some theater with a friend. We have Saturday night tickets so we are hoping to have a very late afternoon/very early dinner (think somewhere inside 4-7) not horribly inconvenient to the Circle in the Square theater. My friend’s place is near Union Square, if that is relevant. Sunday brunch/lunch recommendations before “Gypsy” matinee useful too.

Lots of places open weekend afternoons…Cuisines: likes/dislikes? Budget?

Via Carota (west Village) is something I’m considering for pre theater. About the only time someone can get in (without an in) is 4pm.

Marea is perfectly located for theater in the square. I’ve done it for an 8:00 curtain on 44th st.

I am interested in via carota. But no space.

Cuisine? Anything not korean or ethiopian. Price not an issue but doubt we will be drinking too much as we will be sitting in a theater (bopping along to Bobby Darin, though, so maybe!). Would love to get into any of the via carota women’s places.

I think if you are at Via Carota at 3:30 you’ll get in at 4 but can’t say it with confidence. Locals may know better.

Bar Room at the Modern is also an option.

Most places tend to close between lunch and dinner service so finding spots to dine can be challenging. Most restaurants will open at 5pm though.

Foxface, Fish Cheeks Benoit, Union Sq cafe and Gramercy Tavern come to mind as places that tend to stay open through lunch

Quick bite at Penny or Claud when they open at 5 is also an option

Tavern area of Gramercy Tavern.

Palm on the Upper West Side
Estiatorio Milos
The Modern

Really? Looks like they are only open for dinner (if this is the same as Foxface Natural).

Saturdays they open at 3.30 for late lunch

Did this get resolved? The broader Union Square neighborhood is filled with options, in all directions, for an early dinner. But it sounds like you would prefer to eat closer to the theater.

If you’re up for it, Le Bernardin is just a few blocks from the theater, and presumably still going strong!

Well, not sure I would go there at 4:30!
