When do you think the trend will flip back from Burg to Bordeaux again?

You answered your own question without even knowing it. Didn’t someone actually study the Sideways affect on the rise in PN’s popularity? Didn’t the tides start shifting because of Sideways?

If so, I predict the tides will turn when Paul Giamatti reprises his role and, at some point during the show, goes on a huge rant about how his favorite grape has been RUINED by people trying to grow it everywhere, that most of it is now GARBAGE, etc., etc.

The inside joke, of course, will be him drinking DRC out of a Styrofoam cup at the end of the show, without the show ever mentioning that it’s Pinot Noir.

same.

There are lots of young people who wear bow ties (go to any private college) and my guess is they have been raised in families who drink wine/Bordeaux…guess what they are not drinking casual wines…they are drinking bordeaux. Bordeaux’s brand is stoggy, rich, educated, monied, well heeled, ABANDON THAT GROUP AT BORDEAUX’S PERIL. It is their brand! Putting on jeans and a hoodie will not help with sales it will be an abandonment of their core base.

Not quite. It was Cheval Blanc and no mention that it contains f*cking merlot

I think you misunderstood my post. I’m referencing my idea for the sequel.

Sorry, did not read carefully enough.

Jeff has said to me about 100 times that Bordeaux is better than Burgundy

He also said while tasting wine at the winery where they met Sandra Oh’s character that he didn’t like Cab Franc.

Too bad the bottle wasn’t Petrus (I read the director originally wanted to use Petrus but the estate denied the production team permission – thus they had to settle with Cheval Blanc; not sure how true that is or whether its an Internet myth)

I think Petrus was the wine in the book, the joke being that Petrus is almost entirely merlot.

Looks like K&L has the '15,'16 as well as the '14 in magnum in stock now.

Thanks for the head’s up, just ordered the 14s. Killer vintage of SM.

We’re going to be really sad when we’re old and can only taste anything in the 18s :joy:

Ok, some merit there lol, so I just went back and grabbed 3 x 2016 Sociando Mallet Cuvee Jean Gautreau. K&L at $75. Deal!

@ToddFrench get you some!

I need to STOP buying, not keep buying! I don’t drink enough wine to have 700+ bottles!

As I’ve aged, I’ve become less tolerant of higher ripeness/alcohol, not more. But then I’m an enigma.

Craig and I just thought you were a little odd, not necessarily an enigma.

Damnit, I went to jump on this here in the UK… no dice. In fact can only find a few vintages on Wine Searcher. Which is weird because the regular S-M bottling is quite common here (thanfully!).

He’s an enigma, wracked in misery, slugging Ripple. Or perhaps Caymus.

If you’d rather drink Caymus than Roulot or Raveneau, just say so!
