What's Your Favorite Buy-and-Drink Red?

Good call. The 2013 is pretty good and under $40

Occhipinti SP68 and Frappato, the former probably being my “favorite” drink-now red.
Gulfi Neros
Vajra Rosso and Nebbiolo Rosso
Thivin Brouilly Reverdon
LdH Cubillo

so many good choices here.

Echoing:
Bedrock OVZ (would also add Cali Syrah)
Vajra Langhe rosso
Occhipinti SP68
Patty green reserve
Dirty and Rowdy (especially the Familiar)
Felsina and Fontodi CC
Hudelot Noellat Bourgogne

Adding:
Kelley Fox Mirabai
Chantereves Bourgogne Rouge
Big Table Farm (the new house blend was great right off the truck)
Faury Rhodaniennes
Most Smockshop wines

not that most of these wines can’t hold and improve. They’re all just so good right away that I dont know if any of mine ever make it long enough.

Burlotto Pelaverga is just fantastic.
Produttori normale has been strangely open and delicious for a couple of vintages.

Generally Rioja Tempranillo, Southern Rhone GSM, Bierzo Mencia, or just about anything from Puglia… much of what I have from those regions is not that easy to find though.

Some domestic favorites…

Seghesio Zins
Dave Phinney’s “Location” series
Bonanza (by Chuck Wagner’s son)
Brown family Zins
Prisoner (for a bit more $)

Terre Nere Etna Rosso
Bedrock OV
Thivin
Easton Zin… in my neck of the woods, can usually find one with a few years of age. Always delightful.

Domaine des Billards Saint-Amour
Jean-Ernest Descombes Morgon Cote du Py
Jean-Louis Chave Selection Cotes du Rhone Mon Coeur
Fattoria Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano
G.D. Vajra Langhe Rosso
Produttori del Barbaresco Langhe Nebbiolo
Synchromesh Tertre Rouge

Most recently I’ve really enjoyed a Hobo Folk Machine Parts and Labor - $17 and delicious.

Raul Perez makes a very satisfying entry level Mencia.

Thanks for the reminder on Abadia Retuerta. I used to sell those wines in an old gig, they were always very nice. It was be good to revisit that one.

I’ve been meaning to pick up some Occhipinti for awhile. Thanks for mentioning.

agreed. Ultreia Saint Jacques is excellent qpr
I was also a big fan of 2016 Raul Perez La Vizcaina La Vitoriana which I bought just at $40 as well
