What's the story with Ogga Rioja?

I was served this blind the other night and enjoyed it (88 points of enjoyment for those who care). It was slightly spicy and nicely balanced. I guess perhaps a syrah, but never imagined tempranillo. There was a little oak in the finish.

The weird thing is that the bottle weighed a ton. Indeed, it might be the heaviest still wine bottle I’ve ever come across. Yet it didn’t seem excessively spufified. How weird is that?

I find only one posting on Cellar Tracker.

Lots of Spanish bottles weigh a ton, epsecially higher end Riojas. The thread title caught me though, I thought it was something I’d fumblefinger about Ocho Cinco…

It wasn’t the bottle weight alone that surprised me (though I haven’t encountered that much in Rioja). It was the fact that the wine was only medium colored and wasn’t that oaky. I expected a more modern, extracted and oaky wine from a bottle that heavy.
