You have great taste (but I might be a bit biased). Hardy has so much extra-dimensional conviction when he picks our Syrah each year. Great job Hardy!!! As well, his instagram videos during harvest when he is there at the vineyard are quite a hoot as well.
- 2023 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Primitivo Innervisions II - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (1/8/2026)
I have this weird ability to, without checking, open a bottle of a wine almost exactly a year since I opened the prior bottle of the exact same wine. I did it again with this bottle of Innervisions II, just 9 days short of a year since my prior bottle. The year has been useful, as the overpowering nature of the wine has calmed down, and while still bright and focused, it has blossomed, with more depth to the red fruit, and a measured acidic backbone. It’s still a more aggressive wine than the initial Innervisions ever was, but it’s a boisterous neighbor, rather than an unruly one.
I have one bottle left. I’m at the point with all my D&R that it’s like my remaining Clos Roche Blanche - I wanna open them but I don’t, either.
I am on an Extradimensional Kick! A bit behind on posting, but here are some impressions over the last month or so!
2022 Brosseau Grenache: First of an Extradimensional mixed case. No real rhyme or reason but I decided to start here.
Super bright and lifted raspberry, strawberry and stemmy crunchy cherry. As it opens there’s some Christmas pine, and blood orange. With air the acid mellows and a little softer fruit profile appears. Very delicious and crushable yet ponderous Grenache. Yeah!
Day 2: Things are a bit more cohesive today. More of the same stylistically but together in a more seamless package. (92 pts)
2023 Heart and Hummingbird: Picked one of these up from the tasting room.
No formal notes on this one, it was drank at a family dinner get together. Very unique and fun. Crunchy red fruits with a nice lift. I think this could benefit from a subtle amount of bottle age (93 pts)
2022 Brosseau Syrah: Second of a mixed case. I started with the 2022 Grenache and figured I would go with the Syrah next.
Fist whiff… oh yeah! Beautiful aromas of dark fruit and bay leaf, with light spices. Scratch that, after a few minutes in the glass it’s exploding with smoldering incense and spices. Amazing
On the palate there’s a rich dark yet tart fruit profile. Like a perfect chocolate coated cherry, 1 day from ripeness. That subtle kiss of fruit with the acid to hold it all together.
I followed this over the course of 5 nights and honestly it stayed put together with minimal movement day over day (and I mean that in a very good way) (95 pts)
2022 Mind Left Body Mourvèdre: 3rd from a mixed case. I think I’ve found my attack plan, start with the single varietals and move to the blends. I think this is just Mourvèdre? I digress
First whiff after pop and pour; this thing is alive! Ripe yet crunchy red fruits, spices, citrus rind, and just a hint of iron. Maybe also picking up some orchard fruit? Or has my mind officially left my body?
The energy is there. Delicious on its own but this could also do well with tons of food because of how refreshing it is. Gonna follow it over a few days but this might go down quickly. (94 pts)
My big takeaway from these wines so far: These are all refreshing, energetic and complex. These are wines that I find myself WANTING to go back to for another glass, which is not the case for every wine I open. Well done Hardy! Excited to continue on this little Extradimensional journey
!!!
Normally when I open up wines I try to mix it up one bottle to the next. Different producers, different grapes, different styles, but lately the last few bottles I’ve opened have been from Extradimensional. At first I didn’t think much of it but then I realized that it would be fun to do a “deep dive” so to speak of my experiences with these wines. I feel like it’s allowed me to really focus in on wines, the sites and the style. This was the next bottle I decided to open, and I plan to continue on this trend for at least a little while longer!
Next up on my Extradimensional journey is the 2023 Mariana’s Vineyard Merlot. I tasted this at a release party at the EWCY! tasting room a couple months ago and I was very excited to to finally pop one of these. Although normally I might wait for some kind of occasion, today I decided the wine is the occasion!
Perfectly ripe cherry, fresh mountain air on a crystal clear day, citrus peel and a wild herbaceousness. This is a holy shit wine. This is so alive yet lush and seductive. From beginning to end this is absolutely killer!
This is absolutely NOT what you would expect from a Merlot (at least in my experience), yet this is EXACTLY you would expect from Hardy making a Merlot. Does that make sense?
I don’t even know what to compare this to. It’s really in a league of it’s own, and holy shit I’m glad I have 2 more! (97 pts)
This is one of the wines I’ve been contemplating to break my dry January fast, and your note might be the tie-breaker. thanks!
It’s a worthy wine to break the fast!
Opened this Merlot over the weekend with a three hour decant. Absolutely insane and a great reminder of why Hardy’s reds made me fall in love with them years ago.
Agreed, definitely an insane wine!
Next up on my Extradimensional journey…
2022 Indie Bookstore Light Red
For starters the color is hazy electric Fuji Apple red. Pretty rad.
I poured it a little too cold but as it warmed up this was full of vibrant raspberries and strawberry puree.
While not the most complex of the Extradimensional wines I have tried recently, this is absolutely the most crushable. This is ridiculously refreshing and fun to drink! (92 pts)
Side note: I pulled a glass for this tasting via coravin, and I plan to revisit this in the near future to see how it holds up
Opened the 2023 Mariana’s Vineyard Cabernet Franc for my birthday tonight. Two hours in the decanter, and it’s like the hills and sun of Santa Cruz have been transported to the Loire! This is a completely different expression of Cab Franc from the 2021, which was much more Bordeaux. This is sunshiny Clos Rougeard. I am blown away’
Apologies on the radio silence in responding the past two weeks- Kate and I have been slammed finishing blending (I am so so psyched for the new wines), juggling the little ones, putting together our offers for Berserker Day (get ready!!!) and our finishing touches on our early Feb Winter Release.
Thank you all for the amazing notes on the wines from the year end packs and beyond.
I am so so glad that the 2023 Merlot is doing what it does. That wine is absolutely mind-bending. The block is so so small and yet it produces a wine that is unlike anything else. We barely fill 2 barrels from this block. IMO, the Merlot is in the same league as the Franc but this is more vertical-bright where the Franc is more horizontal & deep
Happy Happy Happy Birthday to you!!! Thank you for popping this one to celebrate. I hope warmed your chilly night. This one (to quote Ram Dass) “is love all the wayyyyyyyy”
