All Hardy’s wines not only bring complexity but also pure joy and the 2022 old Vine Carignane was that and more. Our guests enjoy Carignane so pulled this, decanted 90 minutes and enjoyed with a few different pizzas.
Deep cherry and raspberry fruit along with cranberry. Mix in some thyme and a bit of pine needle to complete the package. Lot’s of acid, a touch of tannin added to the long finish. 12.5% ABV. Plenty of runway for this wine.
BTW, our friends who like Carignane LOVED this.
Thanks so much. The 2022 Old Vine Grenache is crazy- The color and initial aromatics trick us into thinking it is going to be glou glou / porch pounder, but the stuffing, length and structure tell a totally different story. So glad your wife enjoyed it, too!
@Bweiss’s note above sent me to my cellar scouring for the Grenache, but alas all my bottles are at the offsite, so this will have to wait a bit. Not to worry, Partial Eclipse more than made up for it:
2022 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Partial Eclipse - USA, California (3/14/2024)
This wine evokes feelings of summer as a kid, sitting in the shade to enjoy a snack after an afternoon playing outside. Despite its name, there is actually a lot of sunshine in this bottle.
The 2022 Marvelous Mourvèdre is so good. It’s like Mourvèdre meets Burgundy. I have a new appreciation for the grape, honestly. Three for three now on this six pack, and it’s becoming very clear that more Extradimensional wine is in my future.
Enjoyed the podcast with Morgan today too. There’s just something fun when you get a bunch of people you admire together and listen in on the conversation.
I listened yesterday to the MTP podcast. I really enjoyed it! Highly recommended…I even emailed Kate on how to leave a podcast review but for some reason the “leave a review” option wasn’t available. ; )
Mind Left Body jam?
Give it an hour or so of air for best drinking.
Beautiful color, very juicy acidity, red raspberry and even some strawberry aromas. It switches up in the mouth, some fruit punch sweetness maybe from the Zinfandel in the mix? There’s some dusty tannin and earthiness there from the Mourvèdre too but at the moment it’s hiding a bit under the fruit. The wine finishes with a savory almost pine note. Multidimensional and a fabulous match with grilled burgers from the Flannery Kali blend. Another great one. Thanks Kate and Hardy.
We opened a 2021 Mariana’s Cabernet Sauvignon last night. I think it has a great future ahead of it; just showed (understandably) young. The nose reminded me a bit of the Kelley Fox blueberry wine of all things. Such a precise, concentrated blueberry note.
My wife asked what it was about the wine that was waking her up – so, obviously, this is a vibrant and energetic wine!
Sitting here thinking about what could have been. Had an appointment to taste and see the new tasting room today with my Son and Daughter but my Son fell ill and was in bad shape this morning. Soon though!
Nose of wild flowers, yeasty hostess cherry pie, wild bramble, and a hint of something peppery. Medium bodied, crunchy acidity, and intriguing. Palate of fresh wild cherries, blueberries, a touch of candied raspberry, leather, violet, and spices. Light to moderate chewy and drying tannins bring in mild black tea notes and a lot of leather. Long finish dominated by saline, limestone, mild black tea, leather, tart berry skins, and a bit of bitter green herbs.
Approachable and nuanced. I can see a lot of people liking this wine. (93 points)
Thank you, Daniel! This one is a total crowd pleaser. One of our favorites wine country restaurants, Valley Bar and Bottle, just put this on by the glass and the response has been wild.
The Cab does have that beautiful citrus note. I love that in there!
Opened a bottle of this last night and holy smokes it’s good. Have one glass left to try for tonight.
2022 Extradimensional Wine Co. Yeah! Old Vine Carignane - USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County (3/28/2024)
Starts off a bit spritzy and grapy, but given an hour or so of air and it starts strutting some serious stuff. A cosmic sort of purity of cran-orange fruit, a bouquet of green herbs and some crunchy, salty, chalky minerals. A long sneaky finish, with some wild strawberries, barely ripe. So perfectly balanced and poised, with a sense of refinement that you rarely get from this humble grape. It might be an exaggeration to call this the Rayas of Carignane, but a small one. (94 points)
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it ended up being a perfect accompaniment to a Vietnamese noodle bowl with turmeric chicken. Pickled veg, garlic and fish sauce – not exactly the easiest pairing. But it actually enhanced the experience!
