My wife is cooking Pork so I am going to open a few bottles of Chardonnay to sample since only 3 of the 7 will really enjoy the wine:
2017 Domaine Pattes Loup Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux (this is my last bottle and will be the star of the meal I am sure)
2015 Deovlet Chardonnay Zotovich Family Vineyard
2015 Ann Albert Wines Chardonnay Zotovich Vineyard
Certainly, I do not expect the Cali Chard to approach the Chablis, but I think it will be fun to compare the same vintage and vineyard between producers.
Not yet. We’re fans of chard from BN so we’re excited to see an example from this producer. Purchased a couple of bottles on a whim, and with great discounts, from WineAccess.
yes i know the lafite is too young. but it must be done, this is the way
other fun ones on tap for the holidays are 1975 Lafite (birthday), 2010 Unico, 2018 kinsman rhadamanthus, 2018 Margaux, 1986 Heitz Marthas Vineyard, 2018 Vice Versa las piedras
I have been very generously invited to share Christmas dinner with good friends (after seeing a matinee movie, as any good Jewish boy should ). I understand turkey and tourtiere will be some of the items. My friends are currently in love with Italian reds, and I just got my 3 bottles of 2019 Flaccianello della Piave, so I’ll decant the heck out of one of those and probably bring a Kutch Pinot for the turkey (a wine they also quite love). It will be fun.
I haven’t fully mapped out the rest of the holiday wine choices, but a 1988 Climens is likely to be one of them and it might be time to break out one of my 2009 or 2010 Vina Tondonias. A Meursault of some kind is also likely to make an appearance somewhere along the way.
I have 4 days to decide, but the fact that I have a bunch of guzzling in-laws coming over, feels like I need to be selective.
Starting with Treveri sparkling straight up or mimosa. Then have a margarita bar with your choice of base, Centenario Reposado, RDLF Platino, Trad Cristalino, or 400 Conejos Mezcal while I drink RDLF XA Espresso Martini’s. For dinner we have a rib roast so I need to find some red, probably some Goodfellow Pinot Noir and some William and Mary or Piper Cab (these two will evaporate so I’lll need to pour a glass of each and set it aside) while making sure there is Chard for MIL.
Winning combination in my book. That sounds similar to a hors d’oeuvre I sometimes make: Roquefort, diced fresh pears, chopped honey roasted pecans, chopped parsley served on an endive leaf. You can also enhance with bits of grilled pancetta and even a little drizzle of olive oil and honey.
Hosting about 20 non-berserker people on Saturday and going with some lower-priced, but good drinking wines. The Gosset is the exception in that it was gifted to me and not something I drink, so figured this would be a good occasion to open it.
Nice! Please post a note on the 13 Bedrock Puccini!
On the flip side, i have NOT been a fan of the 13 Limerick Lane. My last one was not pleasant. Almosy felt flawed but wasnt. Ive actually stopped buying LL from Bedrock at this point.
2017 Mumm Eclipse (Wife is member and tried at winery last week…very unique wine!)
2021 Kelly Fox Chard (Lark Block Durant)
2017 Samuel Louis Smith Pinot Noir Albatross Ridge Vineyard (Magnum)
2017 Paolo Manzone Barolo Meriame (Recent Costco deal delivered today)
2019 Beta Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard (Probably open the 23rd?)
Could change (or be added to) as day and meal evolves…
