We all receive gift wines. The gifting is a nice gesture. The wine itself might have little significance or a whole story behind it. I was gifted these two wines today. Feel free to post here about your own gifted wines.

A thoughtful gift brought back by a family friend from a trip to San Luis Obispo. She knows that we are wine enthusiasts, but I know nothing about the winery or even the “ appellation”. Looking forward to opening them.
Tolosa is about two miles, as the crow flies, from my office here in SLO, and we’ve done a little bit of engineering work for them in the past. They’re the first winery started by folks who would later found a major local custom crush and then become partners in Alpha Omega in Napa. There’s a fairly thorough local history of the winery here:
Edna Valley/SLO Coast is a fairly cool-climate region, although the wines made here don’t always show it. They’ve had a reputation as a good local maker of primarily pinot and chardonnay, kind of down-the-middle stylistically, if I remember correctly, or maybe leaning just a little into a lusher CA style. However, I haven’t tried many bottles in recent years (I can only remember one rose and one pinot). Their prices jumped a bit several years back, around the time some big internal business transitions and market repositioning were ongoing, and we’re not big CA pinot/chard drinkers in the first place, so I haven’t followed them at all.
It’s certainly a thoughtful gift, though, and I’ll look forward to hearing what you think.
