What wine are you giving your mother for Mother's Day?

My mom absolutely loves Merlots and Cabernets. I don’t know her tastes further than that, but would love to surprise her with a great wine that would be available at my local wine store. Recommendations welcome, and thanks in advance!

Cabernets and merlots cover such a wide territory it’s hard to give specific recs not knowing what’s available at your local store and without more specific information about where your mom’s tastes lean - although if you’re in PA, you may be reduced to whatever’s available from the Chairman’s Selection at your local PLCB store.

As a general matter, though, I’ve given up on gifting/opening nice wines for family and relatives trying to impress them. In the case of my mom, I’ve found that she is more pleased by a $10 bottle of moscato and the rest of the budget spent on something she does appreciate, like the meal itself or a fancy kitchen gadget. If I bring a $100 bottle of red, she’s just going to chide me instead for blowing money on frivolous things (of course, she has no idea how frequently that happens, heh)

No wine. A 1lb box of See’s Candies Nuts and Chews. That is more in her wheelhouse than wine.

No wine. The first (and only) time my mom had alcohol was when she got in the wrong communion line at my brother’s church.

When my mom was alive I was partial to pouring her Drinkward Peschon. She loved the wine and the cork.

That’s so nice. You are a good son.

If my mom drank wine/alcohol, I’d give her that too.

My mom, when she was still alive, loved Duckhorn Merlot so I always bought a case for her.
