What wine are you excited about?

80 posts and not one mention of EDWC? I feel my pulse pick up when I’m browsing through the kitchen wine fridge and pass it by, and when I do open one, almost every bottle has been magic. Also, aged Huet, and now Bernaudeau, thanks to @AndyK

Thank you Brian for the reply. I believe u hit the nail on the head about this wine. I appreciate your decant advice. It’s always a test to see how much decant a wine needs to show itself. I guess i am moving a bit more in the direction of this style in Chard and Pinot. I find the wayfarer wines similar in some ways. They need a few extra years to show. As far as domestic chard goes I did open the other night a 12 an13 Kongsgaard. They were both pretty amazing. Heading to Napa mid November have not been there since covid. The rise in pricing for everything in some cases is staggering. Some of the tasting fees are in the 200 plus range. Regards Mitchell

Have heard fantastic things about Weinert Malbec but haven’t tried. Look forward to your notes!

What’s EDWC?

Bottles with weird labels and names that evoke spiritual descriptions. I suspect it’s a cult.

Did I mention weird blends as well?

And saddest of all, they can’t be found in France.

Darn culty cult :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Extradimensional Wine Co from @H_Wallace_Jr . Pretty singular, and I’d expect them to be very much up your alley. I’ll bring one next time we get together. The closest comparison is probably Eric Pfifferling’s L’Anglore wines, if you’ve had them… but perhaps a bit more radiant and less rustic. Less alcohol too, all the reds clock in at 12.5-13%, including the Grenache!

Trade you for some Pfifferling

Send me your address, I got you:

His name always reminds me of the Butterfly joke about the Frenchman, the Italian, the Spaniard, and the German…

Didn’t know it in joke form :slightly_smiling_face:. But I’ve passed this one along a few times:

Thank you for the L’Anglore comparison. Eric’s wines are some of my favorite in the world.

I probably have shared this before but one of my favorite photos I have is of Eric and Josep Roca (of El Cellar de Can Roca) drinking D&R Evangelho Mourvèdre in Eric’s cellar in front of his Vejade tank.

Thanks for the additional Ployez-Jacquemart recommendations Warren!

It seems like the Granite cuvée is a special 90th anniversary release and sounds enticing. I’ll have to grab a few bottles soon.

Any favorites from Eric Rodez?

I once met Eric’s son, Thibault, at the original Avant Comptoir 6-7 years ago. He was with his girlfriend, who then cooked at Le Baratin with Raquel Carena. The barman, Sylvain, pulled a bunch of bottles for them to try, including L’Anglore Rose. I pointed to that bottle and suggested that they try it, as it is my favorite rose. She snickered and smiled (I had zero idea who either of them were) and he introduced himself, saying that he and his father made the wine. We then had a very pleasant afternoon sharing food and wine together. And, as I think about Vince’s post, I agree.

Great story, thanks for sharing!

Also a fan of Ployez Leisse d’Harbonville here. The 02’ and 04’ are great!

Putting in a plug for the Glavier Genesis (BdB) NV and the Alphael. Low-med dosage and delicious, still findable and reasonably priced.

YUM! Wait… does that help?
