for Thanksgiving we opened a 2007 Labels Syrah - great wine, and the most prominent nose of blueberry of any SQN I’ve ever had (and in a very good way). RIch, fabulous texture and balance. Ready now, but no rush.
Awesome, thanks for the note! I only have 1 bottle left and CT reviews are super mixed so this is helpful.
Congratulations and welcome to the greased slide to perdition and bankruptcy. I have been on the list for about 13 years. Our best white wine with Turkey this Thanksgiving was a a Distenta II White. Outstanding!
Last night: 2019 Sine Qua Non Distenta White - what a great wine
Always funny to see how many people who get on list for reds, and stay on list for whites, and complain about not getting enough whites.
Opened a 2008 Sine Qua Non The Duel Syrah last night. A monster of a wine with years left. Dark fruit, silky spice. Very good. 96+
I was underwhelmed by this when I opened it in LA a week ago… Could be the bottle or the travel shock it endured from going back out West from the East Coast
Mine was great, but far from how great it will be in 2026-27. Love these at 7 or 8 years of age.

We like to drink them. Not a bad one (or mediocre, or average, or just fine, or anything less than excellent one of the bunch, and most, quite frankly, were superlative, as we have come to expect).
This might seem like a humble brag, and, if so, that’s more on you. We realize these are not easily acquired wines, and that they are usually “special occasion” wines. We know, every time we open one, that we are lucky to be on the list, and lucky to be able to afford them, and lucky to be able to have enough that we can open them when we want.
Hate away, but for those who love them like we do, we are always happy to share if you’re ever in the DFW area!
Peace,
M
Mark,
This is the LOVE for SQN thread.
One of my trips to DFW I’ll bring a couple bottles down. Just got back from there today.
I have two bottles of In The Abstract still sitting my cellar. It was so good that last time I had it, maybe 4 years ago. I want to drink them, but then I won’t have any more. The worst thing is that I might wait too long and let them go over the hill. Any danger of that?
2007 Sine Qua Non, Labels Syrah. Smokey blueberries with olive, spice, and a bit of pepper. Plenty of fruit left, but the acidity is front/center here creating a medium bodied wine and a tremendous mouthefeel. I honestly think that almost anyone would have a hard time not appreciating this wine. It’s not huge, it’s not AFWE….it’s just great. Smack dab in the zone and EXACTLY what I was looking for tonight. Life is good!
@ToddFrench , its not letting me post this in two places. Maybe tagging you in will do the trick #NotSpam

I wouldn’t worry about Abstract, I’d certainly drink one in next 2 years though and last one around 15 years of age. I do think the blends matter for holding or drinking which makes generic SQN White drinking windows difficult. I find the ones with PM tend to stay fresher, where the old Rhone/Chard blends get a bit waxier with age.
Had 2007 B&S a few weeks ago, still humming, but doibt it gets better at or just past peak.
I had my last bottle of the 2006 Hoodoo Man (6 years old than In The Abstract) and it was drinking quite well. No sign of almost 20 years of age on it.
We had our last of 4 bottles 2 or 3 years ago and it was in fine shape.
2015 The Third Twin Graciano The Third Twin Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (4/26/2024)
Cellared since release, decanted for 2hrs…my first time tasting a TTT. INKY and extracted blackberry and pomegranate syrup color…nose kind of shy at first, then explodes with white pepper dusted fresh crushed wild berries…kirsch liqueur, candied dry fruits, molasses chews, deep wood smoke, violet florals…WOW!! Fascinating on the palate as it’s totally savory and not sweet at all! Expecting this huge extracted sweet juice like all SQN wines…and it’s totally dry and void of sugar? Like when you baked choc chip cookies and you forgot to put in the sugar! VERY intriguing…and it grows on you. In the mouth, everything on the nose, dialed to 11…really velvety smooth like a Petite Sirah…16.4 abv impeccably balanced…really dig the graphite dryness and insane uniqueness in this wine! Cool stuff! (97 points)

2008 The Duel Grenache last night - hate to say it, I think it needs more time still. Soaring nose (tons of dark cherrie notes), but still somewhat tannic and the wonderful nose didn’t fully carry through. Still excellent, just a tad below some other recent experiences.
I’ve yet to have an over-the-hill white. Not saying it’s not possible, but I’ve not had one even close. The oldest bottle I have is an '03 Sublime Isolation, but I’m loathe to drink it because it’s my very last one and I’m weird about drinking the last one of anything
