You opened a bottle of wine with dinner, put the toddler to bed, and you and your wife are going to watch a movie. You pour yourself another glass of wine. What do you grab to snack on?
Usually a piece of cheese, sometimes a piece of grilled chicken that I’m having right now, or piece of sausage grilled over the weekend for just such occasions, but increasingly, carrots and baba ganoush made the right way with a smoky and charred note to the eggplant.
If you mean packaged snacks, sometimes almonds or peanuts but those tend to be pretty filling so I don’t usually have them. However, peanuts are brilliant with young fruity wines from many places.
After dinner, it’s dark chocolate M&Ms accompanied by nuts: dry roasted peanuts, almonds, cashews or macadamias. Pecans if tawny port is the after dinner wine.
Truffle popcorn!

potato chips go great w white Burgs and Champagne.
I try to keep dips, veggie dishes or pate-like things around that I can put on bread or crackers: mushroom-walnut “pate,” muhammara, escalivada, different kinds of bean dips (the most common is white beans, roasted garlic, lemon juice, fresh rosemary, and olive oil), etc… If I don’t have any of those, it’s normally a handful of some kind of nuts.
Popcorn white truffles. A little bigger than popcorn shrimp or popcorn chicken nuggets…
