I opened the first of my trio of Singularity bottles last night, a 2011 vintage, as my son is really getting into wine, and learning about it, so he’s become my ‘wine buddy’. Jen doesn’t drink ANY Pinot, as it is ‘watery red wine’, so it’s nice to have either him or my daughter home from time to time so I can enjoy my better bottles with them. He chose this wine (from 3 options) because ‘the name was cool’ and ‘it was the name of his favorite suit in Valorant’ or some such.
Well, I’m sure glad he did, as this wine was clearly the best domestic Pinot Noir I’ve had this year, if not longer. I have seen a few mentions of older vintages in this thread, and can’t possibly fathom how incredible those must be. I have '12 and '13 remaining and will definitely remember to wait as long as possible on at least one of those, see how it develops, as it was shockingly Burgundian. Just tremendous. Bravo, @Jim_Anderson
Nice. You, outside of PGC employees, own the largest collection of Singularity in the world. Even at 2 bottles you likely enjoy a 100% advantage over the next set of folks! Nice work. Helps that no one can actually buy it.
2011 was far from an easy vintage but we certainly found ways to make good stuff. Mostly by waiting around. A good percentage of our fruit was harvested in November that year. The 2011 is a combination of 5 gallons each from a barrel of Balcombe Vineyard, Durant Vineyard Bishop Block and Olenik Vineyard Anklebreaker Block. Two of those barrels were new’and the other was neutral. We always selected the barrels that spoke most fervently to us over the course of elevage.
Welp, that about assures I’ll never open another bottle, as I freeze deciding which wine to open even if I have plenty of it - it’s always a struggle for me so if it’s that rare and when realizing once I drink them I won’t get any more of it, I may never open them.
I am very happy to hear this. I think I have one bottle with me in Alaska and the rest are in storage in Seattle waiting till it’s time to enjoy them on a great summer day while grilling up some fresh Sockeye.
