Henri Chauvet Ciel a perdre 2023 VdF (very old) Carignan
Carbonic on opening, once the fizz blows off a pretty, uncomplicated, fruit and straight forward proposition.

I also really enjoyed his Petit Prince Trousseau as well. Really good producer.
Shopping around Paris the last weeks, there were warm recomendations in every shop. Rare to hear someone praise a jura producer as consistent in both red and white, haha.
The red Jura part in particular can be tricky.
approximately how much are the regular chardo/sav bottles running? i am seeing quite a bit of dispersion in pricing from online retailers…
Luckily this one was singing. Really strong pineapple soda vibes, with apples, lemon, salty ocean, baking spices, hint of raw fennel.
Three left. Will drink them within the next few months.
I see something along the lines of 35-45€ in Europe. Pretty much the benchmark of all smaller producers in the jura these days.
any limitations with buying in person? i saw some french based retailers limiting one per customer and mes bourgognes sold thru their recent drop of whites immediately. just trying to understand the hype level here ![]()
Ah I didn’t try my luck I was just curious to get a read on the winemaking!
Delicatessen Place and Bacchus & Ariane had bottles. I see a few here and there on some other european websites with limits of 2-3.
Natural wine dinner here last night as Laura Cabrera from Quintonil was guest chef at our beloved Agua de Mar. Romina Argüelles poured these winners as she usually commands her wine bar Plonk in CDMX.
Sadly I didn’t photograph everything but did get the wines. No misses at all!
A Pet Nat of 5 or 6 red grapes with some Chardonnay tossed in there too. Went AMAZING with a near gelée of tomatoes.
Naranja based largely on Gewürztraminer that was surprise of the night. Super juicy and refreshing.
A Bojo that is lighter than say Morgon but more rustic than the Mathon Brouilly wines I have been loving here.
Viura from Castilla y León that accompanied sublime fish course. I had to resist licking last drops of sauce off the plate.
We also had a generous pour of a sublime Riesling Egon Müller has a hand in. Missed this photo or I know folks here could chime in. Maybe David Smith captured that label.
Her wines just seem to keep getting better. I haven’t had the straight Frappato in several years. This went great with Flannery dry aged burgers last night.
I didn’t enjoy Bastian’s 2024s much. I felt like they lacked the freshness you would expect from such a vintage. The domaine wines are good, but too expensive in my opinion.
I definitely agree the secondary market prices have gone crazy for les Horées, but I’ve been enjoying them more and more lately. I haven’t tried Mon Poulain yet, but Des Six ifs and the aligoté were delicious. I’ve heard great things about the Gevrey-Chambertin too.
I agree, I thought the laisse tombers reds besides mercurey was missing a bit of zip and felt flabby. Apparently he is slowly cutting down production for laisse tombers and focusing on his domaine wines so maybe he didnt spend as much time on them.
tasted with bastian in feb and also found his domaine wines were more compelling, I know he was able to get some new parcels in 24/25 and was focused on that (maybe more than his negoce winemaking). Canopee and La Montagne pinot were standouts for me.
This was really fun and got better and better with air. Sharp acidity and a beautiful nose, but still a relatively simple though delicious food wine.
I blinded that wine at a Jura tasting last year at Chambers, it was a pretty big hit.
Like you said, not a ton of depth, but just plain delicious.
But if you had them now, then I guess we’ll need to wait half a year for the notes, no? ![]()
Lol no
At least a year ![]()
