Figured it was about time for JEC to have their own thread. For me, their cab lineup is one of the best pound for pound values out there. Their OG Stagecoach still shines and their Rutherford and Yates are outstanding.
Last night, paired a 2012 Stagecoach Cab and a 2020 Gold Coast Chardonnay.
The cab was in such a beautiful place and really rewarded the aging . I almost downed the entire bottle myself. Just had a sip of the chard, but it is fuller bodied and very flavorful.

I have had several bottles of 2015 Stagecoach that were fantastic. I also have a few 2013 and 2019 in the cellar. Can’t wait to try them. One of my Napa favorites.

Thanks Tony for starting this thread - very much appreciated. I look forward to others thoughts on how the wines are progressing.

Big fans here as well. Recently had a 2019 Yates, No real notes taken, couple hours of air these come off on the leaner more savory, herbaceous side of things. Long life ahead of it. We enjoyed it with tri tip Sammy’s.

Thanks Larry. The 2013’s have resolved some but are still big wines - big fruit, big tannins, and muscular profile. I would pair with a grilled ribeye. Karen

Had a 2013 Rutherford at a graduation party dinner on Saturday. A couple of Bordeauxs, a Cote Rotie, a couple of whites and the Jean Edwards. The 2013 Rutherford was the star of the night for most everyone. No tasting notes per se, but it was drinking great. Very balanced, great nose and incredibly delicious. I have a couple more bottles of this, so I’ll pay a little closer attention and try to get some more detailed notes next time.

- 2019 Jean Edwards Cellars Chardonnay Gold Coast Vineyard Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (6/13/2025)
One of the fuller bodied chardonnays. Very deep flavor profile with brooding pear and mature apple. Perfect wood treatment where you have the right amount of full flavored oak without pushing the over oaked boundaries. (92 points)

Kicking off a birthday celebration for a friend. Beautiful layers of fruit folded in with a deft handling of the oak. Getting more silky with age.

Met up with John from Jean Edwards and he shared a couple of bangers.
The new 2024 vintage of their Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc. This is both rich and bright and a steady buy every year.
The 2021 is the inaugural vintage of their Coombsville Cab Franc. Lots of ripeness and restraint. Layers of fruit coat the palate and the tannin is refined. Looking forward to laying this down for a few years.
Jean Edwards cabs with some age on them are always a treat. The 2012 74-41 was drinking beautifully and still has years ahead.
I look to enjoy their offerings for many years to come.

2018 JE Chardonnay Gold Coast Vineyard
Wow. This one is getting better and better with age. Very vibrant, lovely acid and citrus and an underlying body that is mature and long.
Working down the last case or so as this wine saw its final vintage in 2020.
Anybody check in on the 2018 Rutherford Cab lately? I have a single bottle from a tasting room visit a few years back and not sure when to crack it. (Probably still too soon but checking.)
Jeremy,
The last vintage I had was the 2012. It had lovely aged character and was on the mellower side.
2018 is a terrific vintage and I would treat that bottle as a drink or hold. It will age wonders over the next 5-6 years but probably pretty great to drink now. I would give it a 1-2 hr decant if I was going to go at it now.

Hello,
Had the 2018 Rutherford last night. If you can’t wait to open, I suggest a one hour decant.
Cheers, John

John,
Any thoughts on the 2018 Stagecoach?
BTW, all the trade buzz surrounding Cam Wheeler and Michael Porter Jr of the Brooklyn Nets makes me miss Karen’s contribution to the NBA thread.
Had the 2014 74-41 with Morgan wagyu burgers last night. Needed a brief decant but then it was the platonic pairing. I think it’s at maturity but won’t be fading any time soon. I love these wines.

Good morning,
Glen, thanks for the update on the 2014 7441. I have not had that one in a while. I’ve had all the other 2014 JEC Cabs over the past month and they all in a very nice place. The 2014 Rutherford was one of Karen’s favorites. Wednesday was her birthday, so I opened a couple to celebrate with friends.
Paul, the 2018 SC wouldn’t say no to some “mindful breathing”. The last couple I had, I didn’t decant, but drank half one night and finished it the second and it did bloom. I will decant my next one.
Cheers, John

We always open a Jean Edwards for Christmas dinner and this year was a 2016 Stagecoach and was fantastic. A couple hours in decanter prior to dinner and all was well. Classic flavors that don’t overwhelm but compliment almost any meal. I know this doesn’t answer your question but thought I would chime in. I seem to enjoy the cabs in that 6 to 10 year range.

I hadn’t been inspired to look till just now, but Jean Edwards is my most-consumed domestic producer. In the last 10+ years I’ve had over 100 bottles and every single one was been between very satisfying to amazing: cab, merlot, syrah, petite sirah, malbec, chard, sauvignon blanc and zin (blend, I guess).
