What is YOUR most recent wine purchase? (Part 2)

Walked into a LWS and randomly saw these on the shelf. Prices were pretty nice as well.

a bottle of Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant 2012. Tell me about it.

Yes

I’ve opened a couple of the 08 recently and think it’s in a great spot. As is the 10. LB makes the wine in a more approachable style so you can go either way with drinking now or holding it 3-6 years. FWIW they consider 2012 to be one of the most difficult growing seasons in the recent past, along with 2016 and 2021, but I’m not sure how that translates to quality because I think all the bottles of 2012 Chemins d’Avize and Longitude I’ve had were excellent. Definitely more open than more classic vintages like 2013 and 2014 that will benefit from more time. I didn’t hesitate to buy the Cramant. Haven’t tried yet, but am looking forward to it. I’ll probably bury my bottles for a few years unless I stumble on a spare one sooner.

I’d give 2012 L-B more time. Like 5+ more years. I think L-B higher end wines round out with bottle age. If opening now, be very patient.

2016 Cramant was great to drink rn, but I’m not sure if I should be looking for more at current prices, especially since hearing that 2019 Longitude is very good.

Thanks. Will likely open it tomorrow.

I’m thinking you read my CT note on the 2019 Longitude… I need to open another bottle to see if it’s really as good as I think it is. I’ve gone through cases of Longitude and I was floored by this one.

Thanks! Robert sent me a link. He’s a klutz, breaks your glasses all the time, and needs to buy in bulk, so it was perfect for him.

Haha that CT note really took my attention, especially since I quite liked 2016. Haven’t had the chance to taste 2012. I looked hard but 2019 doesn’t seem to be available in my area yet. Having a 2018 as I’m writing this now…tightly wound as you said and very vinous with stemmy feel but what an amazing mouthfeel!

2019 Henri Germain Meursault AOC

(Last night I opened Germain’s '17 and '18 Charmes and both were magnificent. I need to load up before we lose Germain to White Burg insanity.)
