Hmmmm! You feel that strongly about it? Good to know.
I’ve been slowly building up a small amount of Y. Clerget but haven’t actually tried any of the wines yet, lol. Haven’t even seen the Blanc in my market.
We tasted with Thibauld last fall and the wines are excellent. Reds are much better than the whites. I’m not usually a big Pommard fan, but his Rugiens is very good. But the Volnay Caillerets is the sleeper and could be his best wine (including the CV).
Of course for those terroirs I’d love to see prices around $80 instead of twice that, but that wouldn’t buy him those Gucci jeans he wears.
Thanks for the input! Caillerets is definitely the one I’m most interested in, but have yet to purchase due to price. Do you know anything or remember anything about his Mitans? I’ve seen a few bottles floating around but JM doesn’t have any notes for the bottling. I’ve mostly been slowly picking up village Volnay from him, the 2022 sounded very favorable.
Nooooooo, not the Gucci jeans!
Agreed though, the wines do seem a bit overpriced, but for what the market is it seems like they’re not a bad buy at this time. I’ll be popping a lowly ‘23 BR of his soon, I’ll get back to you all.
I remembered you saying that, and I’ve kept an eye out. The only reason I’ve kept priority on the Caillerets higher is:
A) I haven’t had many wines with 100-year-old vines.
B) I haven’t been able to have any Caillerets from any producer yet.
C) I found a decent local source that has Caillerets but not Verseuil.
