Do love this producer - even if I mostly focus on Bourgogne at this point, I do still have a small stash of different vintages in the cellar. Oldest I have had was 1929, it was amazing.
I have really loved the old Domaine de Chevaliers and have done verticals going back to 1953. That terroir is just extraordinary, and arguably the best of the Leognan part of Passac Leognan. I look forward to your note.
I have not purchased this since the 2008 vintage
Back then it was 16 euro all including
I know I purchased 2023 at special deal - otherwise I normally look elsewhere at the price point.
I’ve been buying and drinking wines from Isabel Ferrando for going on 20 years since its inception, so when I saw a closeout on the ‘21, I backed up the proverbial truck.
In 2020 however Isabel did away with the single vineyard Saint Préfert bottlings in both the ‘Collection Charles Giraud’ and ‘Réserve Auguste Favier’ in favor of a single cuvée from the Les Serres parcel that serves as the primary source of the de blended CdP, so the question of the day for those with an opinion is, was this a smart move or ?
Really interesting wine; bought it after drinking a glass. Aromas of mint, basil and thyme. Same notes on the palate in addition to freshly turned earth and root vegetables. Honestly, the resulting mix of flavors was a lot better than it sounds. Quite intense in the mouth with a decently long finish. A bargain at 19 bucks.
I think maybe I need to seek out more pecorino. Seems like a good match with salmon or trout.
