Some thoughts looking over my buying over the past 9 months:

  1. I bought a good amount of on-the-run allocations. Not the norm for me. Shows I’ve generally been less active in the secondary market this year.
  2. Trying a lot more producers outside my usual. Chasing a bit this year.
  3. No Coche. Very strange.
  4. Very little champagne. Also strange.

Did you ever open a 2008 Latour a Pomerol? Am trolling on WB for notes on that wine.

2 magnums of 2020 Cantina D’Arcy Barolo VE

I’ve been really impressed with the Cantina D’Arcy wines, could resist checking out this “experiments” Cuvee:

  • 100% whole cluster; 30% foot-crushed at the bottom of the tank, the remaining 70% intact on top. Indigenous yeast pied de cuve added immediately. Pump-overs conducted throughout, along with three pigeages. 17 day cuvaison in total.

  • 6 weeks’ settling post fermentation before transfer to one neutral 228L barrel sourced from Thomas Pico (Chablis). Malo-lactic conversion occurred in late spring. The wine was aged for 22 months in barrel with no racking

  • 180 Bottles, 54 Magnums

Yes, opened one two weeks ago.

Drinking really well in a youthful early maturity way. Shows a lot of elegance and depth. I think the 2008 vintage in Pomerol really suits my taste preferences. Medium bodied, dark red fruits and lovely acidity keeping it fresh.

Very happy with how it showed

Two - from a garage sale(!). A bottle each of 1976 Louis Martini Cabernet Sauvignon and 1975 Louis Martini Mountain Barbera. Ullage is appropriate for their age and at $10 for the two, it will be an adventure

Saw some of his wines available for 40-50 euros and am intrigued. If you don’t mind, how would you describe the style?

A bit of reynaud and chassagne fundamentals

Paul’s Champagnes are expressive, vinous and oxidative, combining the depth of Aÿ Pinot Noir with a fresh, artisanal touch.

They feel precise yet creative, made with a light hand in the cellar.

I love his whole lineup. I just can’t seem to age a single bottle.

Apparently there is a bit of stock at the NY distributor from the cellar sale (last?) year in NY that retailers can access at less egregious pricing if they ask

2022/2023 Dehlinger allocation***

*** I’m sure this may be a surprise to some of you, but Dehlinger ripped out their cabernet sauvignon vines so the current offering (2022) is the final vintage. I’m devastated because it’s one of my favorite California cabernets. I forget what they’re going to plant/did plant there in its place.
