Various wines I’ve been wanting to try that I picked up over the last few weeks. Stopped by one of the best Portuguese grocery stores in the eastern US for all the Portuguese wines (I’m sure anyone from the area can guess where I’m talking about)

Been fairly disciplined lately. Then, Flatiron had a cellar sale today offering a Magnum of 1998 Magdelaine, a vintage I stupidly never bought. Fixed that. Now slotted for a special event.

Following up on the '99 Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py VV. Supernaturally fresh, with the cork barely a quarter saturated. Still incredibly primary, bursting with intense dark fruits and powdery minerality. A slight foxy undergrowth is the only sign of age. Still pretty structured!
As you can see, remarkably dark-hued with not a lot of bricking. I would have guessed this is half its age.
Probably one of the best $20 I’ve ever spent, and happy to have one more!

I just learned yesterday that the les Commandeurs is a lesser (nego) wine than the regular rose. I will try them side by side tomorrow. On top of the hierarchy sits Clos Peyrassol, but our rose-parsimonious friends shouldn’t bother looking it up.
One label failed to scan so it was only 10:1.
