What is up with Cameron Hughes these days??

I live in Oroville, California. Usually when I order wine from Cameron Hughes, it comes, I think, from Napa in a day or two. On April 25th, I ordered a case of Pinot Noir from Russian River. It is still not here, and Fedex can’t give me a date it might get here. AND, they show it as shipped from Blue Ash, Ohio. Just wondering if CH has been taken over by some other company that ships from out of state?? Anybody also having delays in shipping or shipping on CH wines from out of the state???

CH? Or DN?

Cameron Hughes. Who is DN?

Arthur- Cameron Hughes left his eponymous company and started a new venture called de Negoce, often abbreviated by many on this forum as DN. Hence the question about which of his ventures you were referring to.

They sent out a message awhile ago - moved their shipping to Ohio. Allows them to bulk ship from CA to OH and have faster lead times to most of the US populace.

it must be so frustrating for Cameron to come on here and see threads like this referring to his name, but not his business.

Wow! I feel so out of it. Who is doing the wheeling and dealing in CH now to get good wines? My wine is apparently creeping across the country stopping at every podunk town. And just why did CH dump the company? AND, if I order wines from the new company, how soon do they ship to me, and where is the company located?? Any info you can give me folks??

One of the most viewed threads on WB’s…

As Cameron Hughes (the company) grew it started to need more and more capital to buy wines to sell. The company amassed a large amount of debt to do so and eventually in 2015, the banks that lend the company money placed the company under receivership and it ended up being sold to Vintage Wine Estates. Cameron Hughes (the person) continue to be involved in the company for a few years, likely a condition of the sale of the company.

At some point last year, part of Cameron’s contact that determined his employment length and non-compete seems to have expired. So he left and started a new venture called de Negoce. It’s a very similar business model, but instead of acquiring wines and then selling them, de Negoce sells wine futures (i.e. selling not yet bottled wines for future delivery) so as not have similar cash flow problems that plagued his past venture. The new company is located in California. Shipping dates vary by each offer and the expected shipping dates are usually noted on each offer that goes out.

So are people (still) buying Cameron Hughes wine ?

I’m not

CH or DN? neener

Not that there’s anything wrong if you still are . . . [snort.gif]

Cheers

I was never a buyer (or knew anything about) the original CH wine business. But if you liked his tastes and deals from years ago, when he was indeed making the decisions at CH, then I expect you would like the current de Negoce.

Sounds like they are currently releasing a Ridge wine??

Why do you think it’s from Ridge?

Would be awesome…but I would be VERY surprised.

Lot 763 comes to us from one of the most famous producers in the region, if not the entire state. The grapes are grown in a cool climate vineyard planted at the top of the mountain with prime exposure, blanketed by the morning fog up a long, precarious winding road in the Santa Cruz Mountain Range with sweeping Bay Area vistas.

I think Mt Eden/Domaine Eden would fit that description as well, and that’s pretty close to the Domaine Eden blend. There might be others.

I just can’t imagine Ridge doing this (or on the other thread Carlisle). Highly unlikely IMO.
