What Irish Whisky Are You Drinking?

My only contribution to this thread is a tale from my youth.

In Boulder, Colorado, I somehow fell in with the Irish Athletic Club, whose sole exercise was wrist curls with a glass in their hand and dealing poker.

It was there that I found out Bushmill’s was the drink of the enemy (their enemy , not mine). According to them, you knew where you stood in an Irish pub by whether they stock Jamesons or Bushmill’s. Never both. This was 1979, no idea if it’s still true,.

There was a place called The James in town, billing itself as an Irish Pub. I asked why they never went.

They asked me what drink they were known for, and I said a black and tan, very tasty. Guiness and Watney’s mixed. They then told me who the black and tan were ( the violent prisoner’s of England, paroled if they would join the army to fight the Irish).

That explained it.

To this day, I haven’t had Bushmill’s.

Jameson is now French owned and Bushmills is now American owned. So the historical distinction is no longer applicable.

True, but the Mets have also changed ownership; however, I’m not wearing a Mets T-Shirt. Maybe Todd (or someone) can report back on whether Bushmill’s is common in Dublin.

Great memory, mine is slipping😀

Fair shake as we rep a bunch of Irish, and yes I have had some shots recently of Proper Apple and a couple Proper and Gingers, but for a dram with a cube or straight I have been drinking Bushmill’s 12 year and 16 year. I have some 10 year too, but the 12 year hits a real sweet spot for me and at the price I’d put it up against a lot of whiskies.

Finished off some Redbreast too, always good.

Redbreast 12yo cask strength - good, with sherry oak and vanillin notes.
