What Goodfellow/Matello are you drinking?

2017 Goodfellow Family Cellars Chardonnay Ribbon Ridge Cuvée - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge (12/4/2024)
Tons of flint/matchstick reduction, preserved lemon, and minerals on the nose, much more weight and roundness on the palate than I expected, very nice. (91 points)

I recently had a 2017 Dundee Hills Chardonnay that is drinking remarkably well! I had similar tasting notes to yours and on day 2 was still beautifully balanced with lots of life.

Agreed. It was excellent last night. Thanks for bringing it Reminded me of WS XNovo in some ways. Very burgundian.

Happy Sinterklaas Day! I’m drinking one of my remaining bottles of Goodfellow Durant Vineyard Blanc de Blancs, and it definitely has the feel and energy of a grower Champagne (with an Oregon soul). Their sparkling wines are the only ones I regularly drink other than lots of grower Champagne, and I look forward to buying more. Especially when the pink stuff is released. Thank you, Marcus and Megan!

Some things you don’t need to be told.

I’m waiting for him to plant Meunier, Arbane, and Petit Meslier.

Okay. That’s wine geek bonus material right there.

It’s in the works but doesn’t go into bottle until late spring 2025, and then is looking at another 24 months on lees plus 6 months of bottle aging. A wee bit of time…

That said a couple of the BdNs have the “Eye of the Partridge” coloring to them.

are the BdN being released before the summer?

We’re releasing the first BdN next Fall (the 2022 Tsai Blanc de Noir). We actually just did the first dose trial for this wine today. I really like this site for BdN, it has such wonderful energy. It’s pre-tirage elevage was in 820L Acacia foudres, and the Acacia really elevates the more floral tones. It shows it’s Pinot Noir nature but surrounds it with floral notes and some really wonderful citrus peel notes. It all ties together into a very seamless wine that I really enjoy.

It’s also a wonderful contrast from the power in the Whistling Ridge BdN and the denseness of the West Field BdN from Temperance Hill as well. From the beginning it has really illustrated a very different sense of terroir.

For those interested, we also did another dose trial on the second round of disgorgement for the Durant BdB and the WV Extra Brut. These are the same wines we previously disgorged, and it was nicely affirming when we arrives at the same dose choices as the last time (tasting blind). The fourth wine we did a trial on was on the first Patricia’s Cuvee Whistling Bridge Blanc de Blanc.

Patricia, the counterpart to Richard at Whistling Ridge, is one of my favorite people in the entire world and an inspiration (as well as a master grafter and vine wizard). We’re only going to disgorge one of the three tirage bins next spring with three years on lees, but I love this wine.

Marcus already makes some fantastic bubbles with top fruit. Why would he want to spoil that?

Should I get in line now?

That depends. Does Marcus like you? :stuck_out_tongue:

I do like Brian quite a bit, but we don’t ever factor that in to getting any of the wines. I know how I would feel if the only way I could get of the Boudignon Chenins was if Thibaud liked me.

Sorry. Bad joke. Feeling punchy today.
