This is an excuse for me to make a mess in the kitchen, so I decided to make fresh bread and teach my grandson kneading technique. Flour all over the place and bowls galore. After the second rise, divided into three lumps of dough, which we then turned into an herb loaf (thyme, marjoram and oregano, because it’s what I had); a garlic loaf (two heads worth of garlic, crushed by my grandson); and a weirdo loaf (turmeric with wasabi edamame). They are now in their final rise. I may add some rosemary to the herb loaf if I can cut some from my almost dead rosemary bush without killing it.
That will go with grilled big fat steaks, something fried TBD, and something green to keep others happy.
In addition to my dad, my sister will also be here, and my son is back from CA for the week. Morgan Ranch tri-tip is thawed, and just picked up squash, silver queen corn, and cucumbers at the Durham farmer’s market. I have a bottle of '98 Noel Verset Cornas standing up; haven’t selected a Burg yet.
I used to have the same del but decided that it caused me to restrict my cooking to reduce the clean up burden. I enjoy it more when I prepare what I want and worry about the clean up later.
