What did you purchase in 2021?

I assume Vieux Chateau Certan was one of the 8. The others?

53% German
20% Oregon
10% California
10% Burgundy
5% Champagne

What he said. That’s horrible. Best of health moving forward!

% bottles purchased / % 2021 spend / # producers

50% / 66% / 26 Burg
12% / 15% / 9 Champagne
23% / 11% / 13 other French (Bdx, Rhone, Loire, etc)
7% / 2% / 4 American
5% / 2.5% / 3 German
3% / 3.5% / 2 Italian

Total spend was roughly the same as 2020.

In 2022 I plan to do something similar: I expect a total bottles purchased reduction of about 40% at a similar spend to 2021. I plan to consolidate around the top 10 producers I really like and leave about 15% budget for ex-top10 (in 2021 30% of my spend was ex-top10). Where prices are now I can’t afford to not be focused.

27 percent Oregon (mostly Goodfellow)
25 percent Burgundy
15 percent Champagne
8 percent Loire
5 percent California

Then a percent or two of a bunch of other regions.

Best wishes to a speedy recovery, good health and being able to drink some nice bottles of wine very soon, Ned!

We bought Bordeaux, Goodfellow for the 1st time (and certainly not last time!), 2019 German Whites, Champagne and the usual mailing list purchases. Most of the Bordeaux was from the 2010, 2016 and 2019 vintages.

Happy New Year’s to all!

I do not keep stats or use CT, so just in broad strokes:

2021 was my biggest wine buying year ever. Not sure why, just was. Not sure exactly how much or how many, either, but have had over 20 new cases delivered just this past month. I would say 95% of my purchases were French, with Bordeaux being about 50% of that. I went long this year, trying to set up the proper retirement cellar for the 10+ year out cycle.

The wines I bought the most were:

Magdelaine
Sociando
Lanessan
VCC
Raffault
Baudry
Thivin
Montrose
Sky Zin
Gonon
Levet
BAMA
Roilette

90% burgundy and 10% Argentine.

Strange combo. Sort of like playing the flute and bass, which at one time I did.

Yes when you get excited about a shop you better put in a disclaimer now a days. Does Lopa do daily blasts or is more click through the site on what is in stock.

I must echo Brian’s response above: too much.

lots of champagne, white burgundy, a little Clos Ste. Hune, a little red Burgundy, a few cases of de Negoce to keep family away from the prizes while they age.

My best wishes to Ned for a full and speedy recovery. It’s pretty sobering to read about that.

As to the rather secondary issue of bottles of wine bought, mine were:

Bordeaux - 38%
Loire - 58%

As to producers, well, the usual suspects in no particular order: Roches Neuves, Clos du Jaugueyron, Joguet, Baudry, Y. Amirault, quite a few Magdelaines, some HBLs, Gruauds and lately, some Duharts.

Way too much - 226 bottles, and 2 wine fridges to boot to go with the 1 I already owned. I am mostly a solo drinker - the wife will have a glass maybe once a week but that’s all.

US was 67%, NZ was 14% and France, Austria and Spain were all fairly evenly split for the rest.

2022 goal is to explore a bit more outside of the US. I also went heavy with US as I know unfortunately lots of vineyards may not have a 2020 vintage so I tried to go a bit deeper in 2019 for future drinking.
