What did you cook tonight?

Can’t really grow them locally as I understand, because our weather is way too warm. I just ordered some canned ones from the UK; hopefully good enough. A far cry from fresh in-season; but, I have to make do.

Fresh peas are awesome. It’s been a while since I tried any, but are frozen peas available in your market? I would imagine they would be better than canned.

Frozen are not bad, can be ok. I use them at thanksgiving. I would not eat canned if you paid me lol.

Don’t know if they show up at the Pleasanton farmers market, Iacopi Farms sells fresh peas in Palo Alto on sundays. Their web site says they come to Pleasanton also.

On the 2nd whole local king of the season. Made ramen noodles last week and needed to use some squash, spinach, scallions from my dad’s garden, fridged dashi etc so made not quite ramen soup.

I like lots of finely chopped scallions. They stick to the noodles when you pull them out and add extra flavor/texture.

Gorgeous color on the salmon! King really needs a good sear.

Memories of childhood. Mom bought canned LeSeur Petite Peas. Fixed them in numerous ways. My favorite was with Cream of Mushroom soup. Dump the two cans together, the water from the canned peas was the dilution for the Cream of Mushroom soup. She also did a pea casserole. Same first step as above add in some scallion and grated cheese and Ritz Crackers on top and throw in the oven.

We don’t ever get fresh peas here. So I use one specific brand of frozen. Publix Greenwise Petite’s best I have ever had frozen. I make a special trip to Publix just to buy them.

Daughter is home for a couple of days and Dad came over for a belated Fathers Day.

Sous Vide Harissa carrots, red wine braised purple cabbage with goat cheese, Rancho Gordo beans the little red ones can’t remember the name. Maybe Hadatsu? Oven fried chicken. There was a salad of local tomatoes and cucumber. And a peach cobbler for desert. Wine was a very good pink Cava. I’ll edit and post the name later.

In place of English peas, favas should arrive here soon followed by field peas (Dixie Lee, purple hull crowders) and the season is longer. One of my favorite accomplishments with fish, although I don’t purée field peas.

Yes, imported frozen peas are available; but the quality isn’t great, and the availability of the better ones is inconsistent at best.

The first of the season watermelon and feta salad. Mint and basil, EVOO and balsamic. Mine had Jalops and pickled shallots. No pictures of the rest of dinner. Just some okra and squash from the market. Along with leftover chicken.
