Lot 240. Damn! That’s some good wine!

Only two Lot 240 Red Mountain 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon bottles remain after giving a friend a gift bottle this past weekend for their 50th wedding anniversary. Some nice bottle memories after five cases passing.

That’s some solid work there Boris over the last several years. I also bought 5 cases and have a little under a case left at this point. I have been switching between 240 and 230 to make my supply of both last longer. It will be a sad day when there is no 240 left to enjoy…

OG N.94 2018 Dry Creek Merlot
PnP, 11/12. Surprised how well this has developed!
Excellent deep complexity now, tannins are evident & complementary. Appropriate acidity. Great for $132/case.
Fading on day 2, even with Wine Preserver. Drink soon. :wine_glass: :wine_glass:.

I’d love to see someone graph the tasting notes of some of these older bottlings over time. I’m guessing it would reflect the errors of drinking these, especially the big cabs, too young.

Lot 372 2021 Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir
2.75 years bottled. PnP.
EXTRA Nice fruit and firm acidity. This delightfully inexpensive ($159/cs) triple yum :wine_glass: :wine_glass: :wine_glass: PN can age very well!
with Curried Chicken
Day 2, great, a bit richer on the nose. Age worthy!

OG Lot 176 2019 Russian River Pinot Noir
4.5 years in the bottle. #40/48!!! PnP.
This has arrived, almost like a Syrah in structure. Needs more Pinotberry! It only took 4.5 years, before I realized that it wasn’t going to develop a deeply fragrant nose. A nice red wine.
Compared to dN 372, I do prefer the Santa Maria PN’s brighter structure and delicious Pinotberry!

What Syrah quality are we talking here? Cold climate meaty, white peppery or plush with plum and dried herbs and charcuteries.

The latter. Nice wine, day 2, now. Drinking all of it up soon. It’s seems ready for me. :wine_glass:

Have a friend that I gave a bottle of lot 540 Syrah to, he just drank it and called it “delicious.” That’s all I got, but this is the one on T1 pricing match today.

I have not tried it yet, too young for me.

533 Sonoma Pinot 2023

  • 2019 de Négoce Pinot Noir OG N.70-B - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains (10/9/2025)
Popped and poured with leftover grilled chicken thighs and brown rice. Later TNF Eagles- Giants.
Nose: Ripe strawberry, red raspberry, slight bit of spice and earth. Nice integration after 5 years in bottle.
    Color: See through garnet.
Palate: All fruit notes from nose, present in mouth. Nice, almost sensuous mouthfeel. Acidity and glycerin gliding to a medium plus long finish. My favorite cuvee from this set. Should go another few years, enjoyable as heck now. (91 points)

I feel 176 took a bit of a wrong turn at some point. It started pretty good and promising but now is devolving into something a little overripe and is losing freshness.

Interesting Mikko, I’ve got an unopened case of 176, I’ll have to try one this weekend.

Cheers, Tim

Disappointment of the week:
Lot 409 | 2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Okay, not very interesting @ $299. Meh. The Offer was enticing. Maybe time will help?

Scott - I see what looks like a can of “Private Preserve” in the background. I also use them but also have a container with a float that supposedly keeps air away from most of the wine. Have also used vacuum pumps. I haven’t found anything that works really well at preserving wine. I haven’t tried the more expensive options out there though.

Yep, I use Private Preserve when I feel that it will help a wine that seems aged enough by the end of the evening and I still have some left for a Day 2. Never seems like I ever have a day 3, unless the wine kinda sucks? Cooking wine then……:wine_glass::man_shrugging:

#217 2018 Napa Syrah.

We were pleasantly surprised by this. Lots of herbaceous elements that , especially in CA Syrah, civilizes it for us.

From CT review:

Nice Syrah with a really unusual aroma trajectory: at first, very primary, loads of blue/blackberry, menthol(?), light touch of tar. After a half hour, this totally closed up — angular tannins, much more basic fruit. Then, after no more than ten minutes, this comes out of its shell, with a return to very rich blueberry/blackberry, grass, mint, raw beef.
At dN prices, terrific value.
