What de Négoce wine are you drinking tonight?

2019 de Négoce Syrah OG N.223 - USA, California, Central Coast, Edna Valley (6/3/2025)
Over two years since my last taste and boy, this has really coalesced into a fun and tasty treat. It was good to go right from the pop, though it kept adding more harmonious notes to the bouquet as it aired over 4 hours open. Definitive ruby color with no sediment and clear legs. Blackberry jam with garrigue and pipe tobacco and compelling pan fond notes. This has many of the things I love about Syrah and though it isn’t perfect throughout the whole length of the palate, it rekindles that flame for the variety in my soul. What more can I say? This is magnanimous and mellifluous. Crazy value @$15.

Given how Cam has waxed lyrical on Syrah in the past, I’m particularly looking forward to his Syrah offerings this next go round.

Good to hear it’s still delivering! I put these on the backburner for awhile as I was going through them too fast!

As you, I wish also that the new The Negociant will offer the likes of Petite Sirah value selections. Maybe not the appeal of $125 Cabs at incredible QPR cost, but as another Berserker once noted, ~ the enjoyment is finding a bottle/winery that over delivers for the price, no matter the price paid.

I only have 4 left from several cases as they have always been a great defender. One of the best $14 wines I’ve ever had.

Has anyone tried dN’s Lot 422 California [almost Lodi] 2022 Petite Sirah (bottled Sept 30, 2023)? I’m enjoying a 2021 St. Amant Lodi PS at this time and just curious if Lot 422 may be ready for comparison.

I’ve had a couple of the 422s and even left overnight they didn’t seem to wake up much. Not sure if these don’t have a lot of aromatics or need more time. It’s been a few months since my last taste, so maybe its turned a corner?

In my experience, Petite Sirah is like Cabernet, best after 5+ years!

Day 3, still going strong. This baby’s gonna last!

Tonight, opened a Lot 355 2021 Mclaren Vale Shiraz.
It’s obviously Australian Shiraz, but on pop-n-pour, the mid-palate is lacking, and it’s a bit sharp.
We’ll see how it is tomorrow.

It’s tomorrow: Meh…SWMBO liked it, says “It’s mellow”.

Had the N.223 last night, so what the heck, why not. My last try with this was over two years ago and it is still a very good drop. I don’t sense much change or progression, but it really doesn’t call for it. It doesn’t have quite as much character as the 223, but it is still super high on the value meter.

550 Napa red blend. 2021
I agree with someone’s previous post that it’s not bad but it’s not great. It is a very monotonal wine on the pallet note no dynamic changes as it goes from the front of the tongue to the back… I guess I shouldn’t learn my lesson that I don’t tend to love wines that are in the 13% ABV. (13.9)
… the first couple of years of the 18s were harsh, and un integrated. This is not harsh at all. It already taste like it’s integrated and honestly not that exciting.

Thanks for the validation, Luke. As stated previously, I really wish this were Rubicon (23 bottles remaining)…but it’s not.

Just open dN 190. Excellent meritage that is drinking great now. A little heavy on the oak but it was a very short decant so I am hoping it will blow off. Maybe top 10 dN wine for me and I usually prefer 100% cabs, this is only 35% cab.

I looked on de Negociants website and the source guess was Guarachi Family. I did not notice a meritage on Guarachi Family’s website. Cam implied that it was an exact match to the producers blend as was left over final product. Closest is the “G by Alex Guarachi” but most vintages looked up were over 90% cab so it’s not a match. I tried to search through the 100,000 posts on dN but I could not find the sleuthing on this one. Does anyone remember the source discussion? Below is Cam’s verbage from de Negociants. Thanks

Bang. This fantastic purpose-built, Reserve-designated Meritage is meant to showcase the power and structure of mountainside vineyards in Napa Valley. Despite their tremendous enthusiasm for the 2018 vintage, the producer simply had a couple hundred case over what they thought they could sell. Retailing for right around $100/bottle, I think you’ll find this quite the bargain at $29/bottle. It is a rockstar. Opaque in the glass. Dark cherry is framed with Haagen Daas coffee ice cream and spicy cedar notes. The aromas are fairly monolithic and dense, as well as oak-dominated, but they’ll unwind beautifully. Powerful yet supple on entry with beautiful mineral-laced, chewy tannins showcasing blackberry and black cherry fruit in a long, harmonious finish. While fairly oak-dominated, this blend is seamless on the palate and will flesh out with a good 8-10 months in the bottle. Look for this to drink nicely in its youth and age well over the next 10-15, if not 20, years. Glorious stuff. 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Petite Verdot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 100% Napa Valley 50% new French oak 14.8% alc. 225 cases available Bottling May 3rd, 2021

Very good, lip smacking

Lot 229 Red Mountain 2019 Mourvedre/Syrah is an all time favorite in our house and for our son’s family also. It often gets pulled out for their special Caribbean spicy chicken meals. Only four bottles remain from two cases. It would be nice to see something like this again with the tN venture.

Opened on a whim today Lot 302 2021 Languedoc (Cesseras) Petite Sirah which was bottled May 2022… $8 for a French $25 100% Petite Sirah from nine year old vines. Strange to describe a Petite Sirah with deep and dark purple display having a light subtle fig bouquet and ‘delicate’ taste which exudes hidden finesse in its almost full bodied sophisticated finish. It seems as if the French oak notes have uniquely almost dissipated. Cameron explicitly exonerated, ~ THE WINE WILL APPRECIATE THE TIME IN BOTTLE. I had earmarked this for 2025, but will now hold off yet another year to compare this unique French tasting PS to our own American raucous (in comparison) delightfully bold, full bodied selections. Again, quoting Cameron in that this wine had a ridiculous quality-to-price ratio. And this is why we bought in the past these original hidden gem dN offers.

After a few well written, critical posts on lot 40 Diamond Mountain 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, I decided to open a bottle. What I found was very consistent with what I have tasted over the past few years. Solid wine but not ready yet. Agree that I would be disappointed if I paid over $150, I think Diamond Mountain Vineyard cab is up to an insane $250 a bottle now. One nice thing was that the wine, when properly Vacu vined, held up very well the second day. Still have tannins and structure with aging potential.

I still think this is one with a lot of potential and for something around $19 a bottle, its earned a spot in my cellar even though I have been out of cellar space for a long time.

Also opened up Lot 212 Alexander Valley 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon. It is still drinking great. Drink now but no rush. Very nice under the radar wine.
