Oh, were you ever so lucky if you picked up OG N.42 2018 St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon a few years back. Though ours were clearly marked 2026-2036, I simply reached mistakenly yesterday into the far dark reaches of our cool wine closet and came out with this elegant selection. What a powerful floral bouquet greats you followed by the reward of a rich, full bodied dark cherry amalgamation of flavors. A full mouth, welcomed layered explosion of lingering tastes. 94 pts / A+
Totally agree this stuff is very very good… the velvet hammer of all the cabs I have had since the beginning of this adventure probably twenty cases…
Boris!
I missed #42, said to be Boeschen VIneyards? Sure wish I had this one……
I met the winemaker on a day cruise in Glacier Bay Alaska.
He explained how people Barrel Ferment reds.
Coopers Take off the end of the barrel, turn it upright.
Open top 60 gallon fermenter! Then put the top back on afterwards. Then age the pressed wine.
Lotsa labor……
Friday Evening: Started with a glass of 366 Santa Ynez Rose of Grenache then:
- 2018 de Négoce Cabernet Sauvignon OG N.17 - USA, California, Napa Valley (5/23/2025)
Double decanted back into bottle 1 hour prior to grilled NY steak dinner and Pacers/Knicks ECF game 2.
Pours dark garnet in glass. Aroma in wineglass shows cherries, slight cigar box. This Cabernet bathes your mouth with dark juicy fruits of raspberry and plums. Medium acidity with firm, aged tannins, round out a nice finish that paired well with NY steak. Glad to have a case left. Will hold up for another 2-3 years in my opinion. Optimum window now. Anyony try the OG28 and OG29 mountain cabs lately?
I am finished with my OG6,17,20,27,42,64 and 68 cab cases.
Moving into rotation OG21, 25, 40
Still holding off on 28,29,50,82,385,400.
I will look forward to your notes on 25 and 40……
Steve,
Swapped OG 28 to Scott B, look for his recent notes, OG 29 Coombsville Cab always been one of my top 5 dN Cabs. Well over a case left.
Reason for swapping 28? I’m sensitive to the Brett it presented.
Cheers, Tim
Completely agree with Tim’s comments. 29 is excellent.
28 has some Brett smell but it is a complex, nice wine. I purchased a small copper pipe at Lowes and I think it may have helped. Some say copper does not help with Brett but helps with other unpleasant odors. For me, it was worth $1.99 at Lowes to see if it helps as I like 28 but the Brett is an issue. Also recommend a very long decant as it seems the smell declined the longer it was decanted if I remember correctly.
504 dn 2022 cab Napa/Sonoma RC shiners.
It was reported a bottling that was supposed to sold to restaurants….it described as balanced between balanced and bold. I agree with that assessment. It’s pleasant to drink and on the “steakhouse Cab” side of the spectrum but not as fruit forward/jammy as I remember the first bottle when it first arrived 7 months ago where I sampled one bottle. It’s a big Robert Parker style cab but pleasant for that style. Not too boozy at 14.8% ABV. I’d not hesitate to serve this with a hardy dinner with friends and I think multiple bottles would be enjoyed by the group. 91 or so had to give a grade. Likely will improve with time.
I do have to say that the 2018 cabs are a bit of an enigma to me, that they took so much longer to develop/be enjoyable compared to the 19 and 21s. I am enjoying the 2018s now but I remember not loving them for the first 3 yrs (with some exceptions). Maybe 504 was mixed by RC for “early consumption by a more mass audience” but this 2022 is easier to enjoy than the first few yrs of 2018s.
@MatthewT open this one if you have it. Suspect you will like it since you seem to prefer “big wines “.
OG dN Lot 249 2019 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

happy national wine day
Here is a young three vintage vertical:
2021, 2022 & 2023
Probably needs some more age?

OG dN Lot 194 2019 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Over 4 years in the bottle, #5/12? PnP.
Lighter color for a Cab. Complex and perfectly balanced and very well oaked, so delicious now! Tastes like a beautifully balanced high end Napa CS! Triple
.
From Cam: ”Combining the power of Napa Valley Cabernet with the elegant-yet-potent expression of Burgundy, Lot 194 is sure to impress with its cool-climate, ethereal sensibility. It will age phenomenally-well too. I cannot wait to imbibe the aromas five years from now!”
Almost there !
with Prime mountain grilled Tri-Tip
Number 46 Atlas Peak. First one I have opened since purchasing in September 2020. Pretty darn nice with a few hours decant.
Lot 230 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain
Finally?? First of 12. PnP.
Big, bold and ready to go!
100% Red Mountain 14.7% alc. 45% new French oak, that’s a lot of oak effort for this nice yummy wine .
Great QPR!! per Cam: “Simply put, it’s a screaming-deal-magic-carpet-ride at just over $12/bottle DELIVERED.”
with Lamb chops
How did you wait this long to try a 230?? They have been a go to of mine for a couple years now… thankful that I got four cases of it over original release and other discounts on it. Even on the high end of it’s price history on DN it is such a solid wine that has awesome QPR.
Why? No real reason, I just finally got to it! Yes, it’s ready.
These WA cabs have been good QPR’s, looking to drink through them.
Sooner, Mainly midweek……
His & Hers:
She loves gray grapes (with lots of ice).
I love black grapes.

That Twin Hills PN is fantastic!!!

Wife and I popped a OG29 coombsville cab per earlier feedback. Agreed it is very nice and good to go after 1 hr decant. In fact I want some more now and the bottle is empty
Steve,
Pop over to my place, I’ll uncork 1 for you…but you will have to beat Scott B to it.
Cheers, Tim
