Of the 6 bottles i bought of 274 i had 2 that were good and one that was not. It’s a roll of the dice wine that you aren’t quite sure what you might get.
230 and 240 are such solid go to bottles that they are a can’t miss option.
I havent opened a 200 since Christmas 2022 (along with a 255) and at that time 200 was not ready but 255 was great.
80 has been good to me although its a bit of a less powerful wine that seems to be safer on its own va with food
229 is such a unique wine that may not appeal to everyone like a cab would so I will save that for another day.
I think a 230 starter, 200 with food and 255 in the on deck circle will be the safe plan
Popped #472, the shiners. Cork is blank - but its actual cork not synthetic. Bottles are also different than dN bottles at the bottom (the 750ml imprint is on the opposite side of the number).
Tastes very young and tannic. Will report back in a few hours.
N.460 SB wife grabbed it off the rack without me sharing the " these were just bottled and to wait" disclaimer and brought to the pool. Very light. Some tropical fruit coming through, was balanced. Description said Sancerre lovers would like this, at this point I see no resemblance.
Wasn’t planning on opening these so early, but I guess it’s okay to just give it a try. Nothing exciting at this point, but also inoffensive. 88pts.
This is much better 4 hours later. I don’t know much about wine but definitely worth $25 a bottle.
Can someone summarize what the knock on lot 274 is? Seems like a lot of poor reviews on this threads, but I can’t tell what the issue is other than just possible bottle variation.
I grabbed 6 of these bottles during the “unearthed gems” sale earlier this year, thought it was getting a steal for $25, and have not tried one yet.
Thanks!
Try one. #274
If it doesn’t have VA (volatile acidity, up the ying yang), you are ok, cheers
?
Some bottles have lots of TA, and most are unbalanced and uber-sweet.
Its just not a good product.
I went back and read Cam’s ad copy on dN 274 and it almost seems like a different wine compared to WB reviews. I spent $25 each on 5 or 6 so I’m even less inclined to buy more dN mystery bottles. If we can’t trust the dN description, which is really all we have to go on, I don’t want to take the chance of 12 bottles I won’t like.
I was planning on drinking these 274s starting next year but I wouldn’t expect the sweetness level to change. My wife may actually like the sweetness as she does like zin fruit bombs.
First bottle was great. So I ordered 6 more. Next 2 were bad (super jammy…that was 2 yrs ago) the 2 bottle in the last 1 yr have been good. (Not a $175 a bottle good. But $25 good). I’d just open a bottle for yourself. If you like it or don’t like it, I’d say it’s part of the process (and for me part of my education…) bc if I pop open a bottle after a few ppl have commented, I can learn from it and it’s just $15-30 cost for the eduction….cheeper than a good glass at a restaurant that most of the time, I’m tasting blindly.
Just wondering if 274 needs more time. Time is an awesome thing! I know that a few of you have said no, but some time for that acidity and sweetness to settle. I’m in no rush….
Thanks for the insights!
Too many other wonderful de Negoce wines for me to wait for 274. Got them to someone else that wanted them.
330 is maybe the most disappointing dN wine I’ve had.
I’m with you on aging 274. I’ve got plenty of wine to drink while I wait to see where it goes. I’ve seen a few remarkable changes in wine that was not good after just a year or 2. There’s nothing to lose as it probably won’t get worse and I don’t like giving away 5 bottles of $25 wine.
I agree as I have been surprised by how many of these sub-$15 wines have needed so much time to come around so will continue to wait on 274. I opened the 229 Mourvedre based on @Timothy_B_a_l_l_a_r_d note and since it had been a while since I had one. Tim’s note is spot on. Also opened the 101 Cabernet Franc that has also turned the corner and is drinking much better than six months ago.
Thanks for the note on n.101. I haven’t opened one in awhile and was wondering where they were at as the first couple I had were kind of un-inspiring.
446 is great
#472 a homerun. Wow, can’t wait to hear from others who bought it. What a steal at $25. Better 2nd day but really just incredible stuff for the price or 2-3x as much.
Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Thanks for getting my hopes up!
