Great selections!
Thanks for the prompt! Opened one tonight, very enjoyable. I will avoid the temptation to enjoy again very soon, as it will be fun to enjoy it’s development.
I might add that the #21 atlas peak was tasted againt a 2009 Cliff Lede which was disappointing. The fruit was dried out. My friend that brought that Cliff Lede was upset with that wine. She really liked the DN.
Had N. 83 last night, Semillon / Chenin Blanc blend. Purchased on one of the warehouse blowout sales, is an easy drinking white blend. Far outpaces one of the other Semillon blends we had (N.221?). Good buy for $9 delivered
Respect for the diligence of getting a trademark!
But seriously, thanks for sharing your contrast and compare notes. It’s nice to see one more example of dN’s value proposition play out against a highly-regarded wine.
I would also like to thank everyone else here that cross-posts to CT: Rohit, Max_S1, Marie, DanielS, Mikko, VitorC, Andrew, et al… it’s nice to have that more comprehensive list of reviews over there. Almost 3400 tasting notes for de Negoce on CT now so it has more reviews than this thread or Denegociants.
All 139 of my dN notes are on CT. None here
Cheers!
Thanks for doing this Brian. It is enjoyable seeing how well some of the less hyped DN wines do against very stout competition. Rohit also did a really interesting blind tasting a few months back with 173 vs 2016 Salt Vine Cab. These tastings really do show the value of the Covid Cabernets and Cabernet blends.
Thanks for posting such an enjoyable account of your tasting adventure. I have had some interesting insights after comparing wines side by side. Sometimes my opinion of a particular wine that I thought I really liked drops a bit afterwards but i always learn something about my preferences.
I especially enjoyed your notes on 151, a wine that has been one of my favorites. We drank several bottles too young (it was a cellar defender, after all!)
Thanks again!
Thanks @MDMiller and I agreed with your n.151 review. Looking forward to the next DC tasting to try some more wines side by side!
Vitor- n.148 is a favorite of mine and my wife. It’s a nice CS/Syrah blend that drinks great on a weeknight when you want something just easy to drink. We typically do a speed decant on it with a Vinturi if we have a couple hours or a quick spin in the Vitamix if we are doing a pop and pour with dinner. For the cost it’s a great QPR and I also wish I had bought more!
We drank 207 last night and I still very much enjoy this wine. I’m not much for tasting notes, but I like 207 so much that I was tempted to buy more once I saw it was still available on the website for $99 a case. However, I bought so much during the warehouse sale that I really couldn’t justify more wine right now.
This morning I received notification that my case of 207 purchased on 3/17 arrives today.
Thanks for the reminder Brian! For those in the DC / DMV area, we are doing another get together tasting on May 13. Head over to this thread for details as they emerge
I think this has been asked about a hundred times, so my apologies in advance. I’m about to pack up two cases of wine for a weekend house party (it’s a fraternity brothers wedding in Nola and we’re renting the 8 bedroom house that will be the after party on various nights. I’m not expecting decanters but I can open wine in the morning and leave them in the bottles. Glad to see the endorsement for 38 above. Might also do 119, 255, 30. Trying to avoid 123 and 239 since these are good friends, but open to any suggestions. I have my daughters bat mitzvah in May, so what doesn’t go this weekend can be a staple of that party. Assume I have everything, but I’m shocked to realize that there are more lots that I don’t have than I do. Also trying to avoid infanticide (i.e. I have a lot of 216, and it will work, but it will be much better in five years i think)
I mean, your kind of party seems to require more than wine…
Save your DN bottles and just get a few bottles of Tequila and Vodka from the store…hehe jk
Are they true wine and food fans? Will people be drinking from wine glasses or plastic cups/whatever glass is clean? Because i agree that maybe you are wanting to show great wine to a group that may not be in a mood to differentiate good from great wine. It sort of seems like 239 and 123 would be super appropriate for times where ppl are just enjoying company/or getting done from clubbing more than enjoying wine.
Now I have a completely different opinion if y’all are having a cook come in to your 8 bed rental and making the food and wine central or if y’all found an amazing NO style food place that let you bring your own wine. Then in that case go all in and maybe even break out a few 216s since you have a ton. Bc for me great wine is best when combined with amazing food and that is when i would want to bring out the good stuff, not when it’s just a bunch of dudes telling stories about fooling things y’all did in your college days.
But it does sound like fun. Once I was at a conference in NO for 7 days and I committed to eating bread pudding for dessert at every dinner. That was amazing
Groom is a chef and when I say fraternity brothers, we’re nearly 30 years out of school, so yes, mostly people who appreciate wine. We’ll have wine glasses, a caterer, and of course plenty of booze and beer. I guess at this point there’s plenty of data on what’s drinking well today.
Of the “good” napa stuff, the only 2018 that I’ve liked already was 25,17, 68 which I enjoyed with limited decant But I don’t have as many of the pre100 lots like the early ppl have.
Most of my “expensive” 2019s I’ve not opened. 100 is nice after a few hours and I enjoyed one bottle of 300 after 2 hour decant but really don’t know about 200/213/241
I’d start dinner with a couple of the 2019s Washington wines (175,211, 240 come to me mind for me as really good right out of bottle)…then I’d say my only other ones that I know are good after a few hour decant at the ones I listed above)
I just logged on to aa.com and apparently you can’t check boxes. I’m sure I checked a cardboard shipper full of wine a few years back, I guess that’s not a thing anymore.
Hmmm…
Try this aa, they may be more wine friendly:
We have a shipping problem!
bad for business???
Never mind, no boxes is only on certain routes.
And SIZE matters if one needed to know. Enjoy your time in NOLA Jonah.
Cheers, Tim
