What Cigar or Pipe Are You Smoking?

I was unaware that you were the owner. You have a very nice shop. We prefer it over Napa Cigar. I’m sure we have spoken before if only briefly. I will make sure my wife brings some additional PSD4s.

Diesel Unlimited d.5 Natural Robusto

Two hours in the humidor at 77% humidity since it took five days to get here. Barnyard on the foot and rich tobacco on the cold draw. The first half inch was rough but as soon as I ashed it settled down. Lots of wood with leather, natural tobacco, kitchen spice, hints of cocoa, some light sweetness and black pepper on the finish. Medium to medium plus, solid ash, even burn and lots of dense smoke. The spices increase approaching the nub for an added dimension.

I prefer the maduro by a good margin.

I’m sure I would too but Natural was the only thing the distributor had in stock.

Esteban Carreras 187 Toro Maduro

Two years in the humidor. Starts out with coffee, hay and light salt. Dark chocolate and kitchen spice join in along with some caramel like sweetness. The spices start build at the start of the final third, as does some white pepper. Medium strength and body with a very good flavor profile.

No formal notes, but a lovely My Father Flor de Las Antillas Toro Box Press on the golf course today. Really beautiful cigar.

Cohiba Siglo IV

Fifteen plus years in the humidor. Kitchen spice on the foot. Draw is firm. Surprisingly mild and somewhat salty. Hints of coffee, cocoa and baking spices. Light pepper on the finish. Consistent end to end with an occasional citrus note and a touch of sweetness on the nub.

Indian Motorcycle Toro Maduro

Dropped off yesterday by a rep. Barnyard on the foot and leather on the cold draw. Smooth and mild, almost medium with rich flavors of leather, tobacco and dark chocolate on a background of earth. Occasional black pepper notes countered by some sweetness. Put this one on your to do list.

Gift from a buddy. This has a number of years on it but I’m not quite sure how many. In a really good spot, lighter to medium bodied, cedar, lots of nuance.

Plasencia Alma Fuerte Robusto

Arrived two days ago. Lots of wood, kitchen spice, earth and a little white pepper to start. Dark chocolate slowly builds as does some sweetness, moving to the forefront through most of the second third. Cinnamon starts to build and moves to the forefront starting the final third. Medium to medium plus and very smooth. Excellent cigar

I look forward to trying something from Plasencia AF. Thanks for the note.

Fuente Don Carlos, personal reserve, last year‘s release. Used to love this cigar, but this one was a little lacking in flavor.

Phil, I had one not too long ago and it started off lacking flavor until I ashed it. I ashed it every half to three quarter inch and got more flavor each time. I found it improved most of the cigars I’ve been smoking to review here. I know it goes against the grain but the first ashing gets rid of the overheated burn flavors from lighting the cigar. Give it a try and let me know the results. Then I’ll know if it works or that my palate is shot. [cheers.gif]

Plasencia Alma Del Campo Toro Gordo

Three days in the humidor. Rich tobacco on the foot. Leather, earth and walnut with black pepper on the finish. I’m choosing walnut for the nutty flavor because there is a tannin like bite on the back of the tongue and throat like I sometimes get eating walnuts. The cigar gets creamy half way with some coffee notes, very light sweetness and a hint of black fruit. The black pepper softens leaving a spice like finish. Very good cigar about medium in body and strength.

Monte 4 with a Stella

I’m an asher. But I generally smoke pretty slow as well.

Two maduros - Last Call % Four Kicks. No comparison. The Four Kicks is far superior. I’ll be offloading my Last Calls.

Wow. I’ll have to find some four kicks if they are that good. I go through three boxes a week selling individual sticks plus a box purchase every two weeks.

Plasencia Alma Del Fuego Robusto

Four days in humi. Hay on the foot and cinnamon on the cold draw. Tunneled. Cut past it and relit, so my notes may be off. Loads of earth, chili pepper and slight citrus. The chili pepper softens exposing kitchen spices and a hint of coffee. Nearing the nub, some sweetness appears and complements roasted nuts and cinnamon. Medium to full body.
