I have a cork ball on top of the decanter. Definitely didn’t thin out.
According to a lot of sleuthers, it is Navarro
Yea, I know. That’s why I said it didn’t taste exactly like Navarro to me.
I’m visiting Anderson Valley later this December, will put Lot 28 to the test with Navarro’s Gewurztraminer. Probably lot selection.
Lot 17 pobega’d just now after arriving a few hours ago. This wine is tart! First thing I get is lip smacking acidity, followed by red fruit, and then smashed into a wall of tannins. This one needs some air for sure, but the components are all there. Excited to follow this one over the weekend.
It’s incredible with a 24 hour decant
Enjoyed Lot 2 last night after a quickie aeration. Was afraid that it wouldn’t be very approachable and am happy to say I was wrong. DEE-Licious!
Also, while I enjoy Lot 4 chardonnay, I think Lot 9 has really come around now and is showing well. Currently my favorite chard so far.
First note I guess?
@Sc0tt_B I hope you bought this. This would probably be off your triple-yum scale. I’m surprised how well it already drinks.
I am very happy to have 2 cases of this. And I would say it’s exactly from the vineyard we thought it was from. Wow.
Definitely not an everyday drinker but when you want to be punched in the face, you want to be punched in the face by the best. This is the Mike Tyson.
2023 Cam X Cabernet Sauvignon Lot 19
Very young dark opaque ruby/purple. plenty of extract. Ripe, intense and complex nose of dark fruits, cassis, currants, some spicy notes with nice classy oak, chocolate/cacao powder, violets, vanilla, some alcohol heat. A very high quality Napa cab nose.
Palate is full bodied, young, ripe, powerful, high alcohol, nice grippy tannins. Flavors follow the nose with cassis, hint of tobacco, decent acidity to keep things in balance, and a long finish with those nice tannins.
It doesn’t have much finesse, it’s very much a volume-to-11 big Napa Cab, Robert Parker would love this. It’s high quality fruit and tastes expensive. It might not be for everyone, but in this style this is one of the best Cameron Hughes Cabs I’ve tasted fresh off the truck. It already drinks very well but will keep for an easy decade or two.
17 after a 24 hour decant is still pretty disjointed. Slowly starting to coalesce.
28 gewurz is a lychee bomb. I get lychee on the nose and the palate. Pleasant but I’d like a little more acidity to balance it out. Not as crushable as lot 4 in my opinion.
22 Malbec is great. Classic malbec, probably could use a little bit more time.
20 Pinot is great fresh out the bottle. Nice acidity and fruit with just a touch of the Pinot funk to round it out.
Lot 25: splash decanted last night. Back into bottle. Drank with friends tonight. No detailed notes but everyone loved it. Great deal at $25 already and will be awesome in a few years. Might have to get another case.
Also PnP’d Lot 22. More mixed reviews. Probably should have decanted it for a bit. My take: people who like Malbec will enjoy it but won’t convert anyone. But at that price, great buy.
Lot 2 pop and pour tasted like a darker fruited, stronger nosed version of Lot 1 but the palette was kinda thin. Totally different story after 24 hour decant, really nice rich dark fruit nose with some olive and earth. Palette was just about the same as the nose with good acidity, and not too strong tannins. A bit meaty in the best way. It’s the last of my Fall purchases that I’ve tried and one of my favorites!
After trying exactly one bottle of each here is my current hierarchy for how much I liked drinking a glass right now, in order:
Great: Lot 21, Lot 4, Lot 2
Very good: Lot 1, Lot 20, Lot 22, Lot 35
Good: Lot 28
Kinda hard to drink right now but may be great some day: Lot 16
22 malbec - purple violets , black cherry / black currants , silky smooth texture. Popped and poured off truck and similar notes on day 2. 93+ points
25 cab - day 1 - after 5 hours in the glass not much on the nose. raspberry, tannin, and acid on the pallate
Day 2 - another 3 hours in the glass some dark fruits, raspberry, and spice on the nose, raspberry, red rock and the mouth feel starting to fill out. Would probably be better on day 3 but didn’t make it. 93+ points
Lot 35 pinot - pretty muted after a 2 hour decant - dry dusty raspberries - no true pinot signature.
Will see how it is tomorrow then wait a few months to see how it knits together.
Lot 11 RRV Chard: PnP. Super expressive movie popcorn butter initially with some vanilla and peaches on the nose. Palate was a bit flat initially, but found balance with time + air. Leans rich/decadent.
I opened next to a Diatom Chard which I preferred stylistically, but the value on this is stupidly good.
Lot 7 Coombsville.
Bottle 2/6. Decanted for 2+ hours.
This is drinking nicely. Meaty, blackberry, cranberry, graphite. Lots of structure & the girl enjoys it too.
Where does #7 stack up Gabe?
Lot 25 Fantastic
Lot 7 very good
Lot 12 very good (tannic bomb, needs time)
Lot 32 good (muted, needs time)
Lot 3 good
Lot 31 PN, day 1: Drinks really young and simple at the moment. Crunchy cherry, a bit of stem and cola but pretty simple. Will check in tmrw.
This is pretty spot on. Read/ found this after popping last night, and think it nails where it starts and where it lands in a few hours. Pretty brilliant wine and amazing QPR. Saved a glass and change for tonight.
Wish I bought more.

Mikko (FM#1): That’s great to hear, maybe a quadruple yum?
