2013 Matello Fool’s Journey Deux Vert Vineyard
94% Syrah/ 5% Viognier
This wine has strong black pepper and fresh herb elements on the nose and palate. I wish that Goodfellow made this wine still.
I like it alot.
Not an oaky mess like some Rioja might be, but well balanced for my taste at least.
The acidity levels really surprised me and should be good portents for its evolution in the years to come.

Picked up a 2019 Ridge East Bench Zinfandel - went quite nicely with tacos tonight! First wine I’ve had from Ridge actually.
Yesterday, over a Cantonese BYOB lunch banquet, 2021 Cloudy Bay Sauv Blanc & 2018 (I think) Huet Le Mont Sec for the various shellfish/fish dishes; and, 2020 Daniel Bouland Côte de Brouilly Cuvée Mélanie for the fried pigeon & Pork Belly “Muy Choy” (w/ Mantou) dishes. No photos of the bottles though as I was focusing on the food.
2003 Chateau Pontet-Canet.
This thing is still youthful. Very dark opaque ruby, very viscous with long thick legs in the glass. Nose has tons of earth, cedar and a touch of herbal menthol notes and forest floor. On the palate it’s completely dry with no over the top ripeness or sweetness. Cassis, blackberries, leather, dark chocolate. Nice soft tannins that still have a pleasant grip. Finish is very complex and long. I would run out of fingers, toes and likely hair if I counted how many seconds it lasts.
In my very uneducated opinion, this has recently reached close to it’s peak and will likely stay here for a long time. Good sh*t.

The Barraud Macon is a QPR gem from Skurnik that merits reloading when I run out of my current stash
Don’t have a horse in the Fontodi vs Felsina discussion…like em both but find the Felsina more affordable…Still, I have fond memories of a case of Fontodi that cost me < $150 …regrettably, that was a long,long time ago
2019 Champalou Vouvray Les Fondraux
Easy to drink. Off-dry, I think the French call this style ‘tendre’. A wine to just enjoy, and not think or talk about too much.
Recommended.

2019 Elyse C’est si Bon red blend: Grenache (52%), Mourvèdre (20%), Zinfandel (10%), Carignane (10%), Charbono (8%)
Decanted for two hours. Medium ruby in the glass; almost cloudy even.
Red fruit, cherry cola, and raspberries on the nose along with hints of vanilla and toasted tobacco.
Dry with medium body, medium acidity, and medium silky tannins. Quite balanced with a short finish. For the price I think this is an excellent table wine. Tried it at a local tasting this past weekend and just had to buy a bottle - will likely will pick up a few more as I was pleasantly surprised.

An OK 2013 Banfi Brunello, kind of one dimensional but went well with the Lasagna! And a beautiful 2013 Kistler Vine Hill vineyard. Peaches galore.

Case Paolin Col Fondo Asolo Prosecco Brut Nature
It was more interesting than most prosecco I have had. Even though it was brut nature, it wasn’t steely and had a nice green apple note. Additionally, this had an aroma of ginger and fresh dough.
Opened a 13’ Scherrer Platt Vineyard pinot last night paired with cast iron halibut. Magnificent fruit, drank over 3 hours. This was a library purchase a couple years back.
