Good buy very funky. It was the red L’ermite not the white which I was hoping for when I first saw it
Chapoutier white hermitage is my very most favorite of all white wine!
How was it? I’ve always liked those wines
Le Cafe du Peintre?
Scott- I feel your pain. Here is my 2010 Boillot Mouchere from last night. I knew the odds were not in my favor ![]()
1st time trying Brewer-Clifton and I enjoyed it.
Had some nice red fruit, a little bit of earthiness but was bigger/bolder than I expected. I would buy again.
Wasn’t the plan to just drink @Steve_McL 's bottles? I heard he made a pact with the great beyond so his Boillot will never be poxed!
Edit: I now see that you covered that already…
Nosch in Lyon - great wine list, food and service, however you need to ask in advance for the special wine list ![]()
Have not been. I’ll check it out next visit. Cinq Mains is worth a look. They also had a “secret” list of wines kept offsite. Loved Le Cafe du Peintre (had Allemand & Gonon) and Cafe Terroir (great Bresse chicken in Vin Jaune.).
I realize the Aubert is too young, but trying to get some sense of style from the producer and it’s just not cooperating at this early stage. Just a wall of oak on this and the chard (that’s probably my answer). Just thought there would be something else
• 2016 Bosquet des Papes Chante Le Merle CNdP VV
From CT review:
Raspberry, cassis, mint, some creamy enoki flavor. I thought it must have a lot of Grenache in it, and so it does (85%). I really liked the relative sophistication that a lot of Grenache doesn’t give. My wife didn’t care for what she felt was too much sweet spot and high alcohol. “I remember liking wines like this, but maybe I don’t any more.” Her first recorded case of palate shift. Anyway, I will admit that it’s a little heady, but not unpleasantly so. I really don’t think it will improve from here but I could be wrong about that.
Oh yeah! Love them! Try Chave’s…
Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru LSJ 2018
Lots of balloon and tart strawberries on opening as well as slight bitterness. Funk blew off with air and the rest of the wine unfurled. Darker cherries joined the strawberries, and a subtle mint note. There’s fresh soil and silky texture with a mineral streak through the persistent finish. Delicious.
Quite a comedy tonight. Was looking to open an older bottle of white Burgundy. I really enjoy Henri & Gilles Buisson (biodynamic producer out of Saint-Romain) and Rosenthal last year had quite a library of older vintages available for offer so I snapped up some bottles.
2013 Domaine Henri & Gilles Buisson Saint-Romain “Sous La Velle”
Bottle was an unmitigated disaster, here presented in all its glory. Cork looked good, it was only 2013 so figured wine key should be fine. Cork was just atomized. Required the use of a knife, chopstick, and strainer to try to salvage the situation, only to met with a horribly premox’d wine.
2016 Domaine Henri & Gilles buisson Saint-Romain “Le Jarron”
Durand made short work of the cork. Unfortunately, the wine was also premox’d.
2022 Goodfellow Family Cellars Tsai Vineyard Chardonnay
Goodfellow (and DIAM) arrives to save the day.
Pours a pale, beautifully unoxidized straw-gold. The nose has lemon curd and pith, melon, chalk, anise, white flowers. Intriguing, evolving. The palate is medium bodied, with textured fruit. The minerality is the star – chalk, river stone. Only moderate acidity, and long herbal finish of anise and coriander.
Such a beguiling, evolving, intricate little wine. 94 points.
My night was essentially a mini-metaphor for the journey from white Burg to Oregon Chardonnay.
Beautiful plate! Are you on the old continent yet?
Château Capbern 2020
There’s a lot to like here. Nice nose of cassis with the leaves, slate and a little torrefaction towards the end of the bottle (air and higher temp). The palate is balanced with plenty of dark berries, powdery tannins, medium acidity, cool minty tones and a long mineral finish. No alcohol sticking out. For the price, this seems like a good short to mid-term drinker.
Dinner @ Il Corso in midtown Manhattan with 4 other local wine enthusiasts.
The ‘98 Conterno CF had heat issue, the rest were gloriously good.
Yes, Antibes. This is a wonderful seafood place oddly enough, called Maison du Bacon. The restaurant is mostly open air overlooking the ocean, and with a killer roof top bar. Wine menu was solid.
