Xmas eve eve - a 93 Lynch Bages was what really kicked off my passion for wine and the 89 is stunning but I’ve been underwhelmed by recent tastings of 09 LB and and a couple of years ago the 05 (an 05 SHL smashed it out the park) so let’s see.
wow! thx for getting back to me so quickly…Wanted to serve it to my SIL in September but timing didn’t work out…Hoping to serve when he,my daughter and their kids arrive for the holidays
I swear, every time you post, I ask myself “is that Hawaii, or LA?”
No change really from my last bottle, it was still underwhelming. It’s still a very good, well made wine, classic Pauillac profile - somehow though it just falls slightly flat, I’d almost say it is too polished and not very soulful. It’s the same experience I have with the 09. I think with these LBs I just need to let them sleep for another couple of decades and the hopefully they show.
its one of the restaurants in Chicago that really is pushing a great wine program affordably, and helping show consumers different wines they would never see. websters is another one, but they do very different things i think
well it is a just a little further across the Pacific Ocean!
Showing lovely toasty development under screw cap. Beeswax and lanolin and lemon. Pure and clean and long. Great acidity to finish. Maturr Hunter Semillon is a treat
2005 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Roncières: bangin’
My first 2014 Fonsalette. What a beauty. Opened a day and half in advance, small pour taken and left in the cellar open. Drank with Christmas lunch today. Pale red colour. Intense nose of strawberries and spice. Palate is beautifully detailed and precise. More strawberry confit, white pepper and some hint of liquorice. Medium bodied and very elegant and burgundian with fine silky tannins and good acidity. Showing just how magical the late Emmanuel Reynaud was in the cooler years. This definitely on the lighter side for Fonsalette but in my mind much the better for it. Very glad I went nuts and bought lots of it in October this year. Served at 15 deg C which enhanced the freshness and brightness and delicacy in the wine.
Yeah, the 2014 is beautiful stuff. I had a bottle of that back in May!
2014 CDR was also pretty magical last night. Really amazing nose. Elegance from a taste perspective. I really like this vintage.
December 25th Lunch (Fighting a cold)
Battling some congestion, so I pivoted to high-energy wines. Needed voltage to cut through the noise.
2018 Frédéric Savart - Le Mont des Chrétiens
Razor-sharp. 2018 can be broad, but this had that signature Écueil chalky grip that wakes up the central nervous system. A perfect palate reset.
2021 Château des Tours - Côtes-du-Rhône
Opened this 3 hours ahead and it is singing. The ’21 is electric—lighter frame than previous solar vintages, but vibrating with crushed strawberry and blood orange zest. It acted as a total sensory bypass for my cold.
Perfect match for Bresse poultry w/ prunes. sometimes you just need velocity over complexity
2012 Bollinger Grand Annee Rosé. Emphasizing energy and zing on opening, it continued to spread and flesh out until the bottle was empty. A creamy finish with lots of redcurrants. Superb and surprisingly well priced given its class.
My Dad’s go to wine. I have shared many different wines with my Dad. He says the light Pinot’s are wonderful, Cali cabs and Borolos are terrific, Zins
are nice, but this is what he buys and enjoys in Florida. Dads a classic.
Anyone ever taste this?
That is awesome!!! 16%. I need a bottle.
2021 Ribeiro Santo Vinha da Neve Branco
Ribeiro Santo is my number one cellar holding, and my friendship with Carlos Lucas accounts for this just as much as the intrinsic quality of his wines - a quality I find all the more commendable given the size of his production and the variety of his portfolio. If the reds are good, the whites are consistently fantastic - from the basic entry level Encruzado to this quasi Grand Cru, Ribeiro Santo’s “snow vineyard”, and an Encruzado that seamlessly walks that thin line between elegance and structure. The oak signature renders a filigree with criss crossing notes of bitter citrus, green apple, minty eucalyptus and white florals. It carries breadth and depth with airiness, its acidic finish as long as it is sophisticated. It was excellent today, but will surely ride the train of time and reach greater heights.
