2018 Trathen Hall Arlyn Vineyard Chardonnay
2014 Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon Saint Véran
Slightly developed straw color. Nice nose with lots of minerals, flint, citrus, stone fruits, some leesy/yeasty richness and a touch of oak/spice like crushed white pepper. Palate is youthful, rich and has freshness from medium acidity. Lots of lemon, slight buttery/spicy oaky tones in the background, but in good balance now. Finishes somewhat long and pleasant with lots of minerality. A very nice wine that drinks much younger than I expected. It is not the most complex wine in the world, but it is clearly very well made. This would easily keep and maybe even slightly improve for another 10 years.
2019 Ser Cabernet Pfeffer Young Vine Enz Vineyard
Very pinot-like color, maybe just slightly inkier tone. Somewhat simple fruity nose with dark cherries, strawberries, pomegranate, crushed pepper and a slight hint of balsamic VA. Palate is light bodied, juicy, fresh, low+ acidity, very slightly carbonic and very fruity with cranberries, tart strawberries, some cloves and peppercorns. Finishes somewhat short and simple with very light tannins and some spicy tones.
Nice wine, it’s not the most serious or complex wine, but I doubt it tries to be one either.
This was a BD14 buy for me, and heck, I might buy again next year if given the opportunity. Nice easy Tuesday wine.
2011 Ch. Grand-Puy-Lacoste
Decanted and left for two hours, then an hour or so in bottle again before being served with dinner.
Feels like no shame in drinking this now, a very serviceable bordeaux indeed.
Not better on day 2. The greenies turned into bitterness.
2019 Domaine Michel Barraud Macon Villages…another QPR gem from Skurnik, chock full of stone fruit, salinity and minerals on the palate, faint notes of apple on the nose, well made wine that went well with crab cakes and a salad
2017 Domaine Chofflet-Valdenaire Givry Rouge
Plenty of red fruit, baking spice , and a hint of oak.
2004 Georges Vernay Maison Rouge Cote-Rotie
Mushroomy, meaty bouquet. Soulful and unmistakably only-in-Northern-Rhone syrah. Stemmy fruit, savory, almost-ripe fig, black pepper. Lengthy.
2019 Sabelli-Frisch “Luciades” Tinto Cao
This was my first wine that I have had from Adam. I bought this as well as the 2018 on Berserker Day. This was described as lighter in style and more drinkable now in its youth, so I chose to open this one instead of the 2018. Decanted for thirty minutes and it was drinking absolutely beautifully! Blackberries, plum, cocoa powder, and floral highlights on the nose. Medium bodied, elegant and in impeccable balance for being so young. Blackberries, acai, and black pepper on the palate. My wife and I both loved it and now going to purchase more.
2016 Bevan Sentinel Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, for an early birthday dinner at a steakhouse. Fantastic structure to balance some nice deep fruit.
Celebrated a friends birthday last night.
Might make a post on all the wines later. All of them showing pretty well.
But the 2000 Savagnin from Overnoy in 500ml format was crazy good. Very oxidative as expected, but with a freshness and length i have rarely experienced before. The taste would hang for minutes! A wow wine.
Got my annual LdH allocation delivered on Friday. Went to a friend’s bach the same day at Lake Rotoiti (NZ) and we had the 2001 Vina Tondonia Reserva with Chicken and Prawn Paella. The 2001 is a re-release direct from the winery and was in fantastic shape, drinking beautifully. The location and the setting helped too!
2020 Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée
Already this is very pleasurable. Aromas of spices and some wood. Harmonious and well balanced with a stimulating quality of fruit. Feels like this has more to offer down the road, but how to resist…??
2019 Our Wines Oregon Pinot Noir…a 2022 BD purchase…Drinking well currently. . clearly in a better place after a roughly a year in my cellar, than the previous bottles that I drank of this multi vintage case…I think i got carried away by all the hype and tasting notes and drank a number of the bottles way too early, at least to my taste…your mileage may vary. This bottle was a lovely example of what I have come to expect from well made Oregon PN’s…
If it’s Sunday evening, there is probably a cheese plate. The Fevre Domaine Chablis is usually pretty good and the 2019 edition steps it up to excellent. Especially nice with the goat cheeses tonight.
Very Recommended
You can ever go wrong with a Fevre’ Chablis in my opinion.
Fevre 19s are really great. I tasted through them all last year and from the 1er Crus the Vaulorent in particular is great.
2018 Chateau de Beaucastel
Nice but certainly a product of the vintage.
I had the Bourgogne last night. So crushable and great quality for $37.
