What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

They would definitely have benefited from another setting. That said, then I have been lucky to have tasted some, for me, wow Burgundy lately. These were not close to those experiences (I know I just said I rarely drink Burgundy )

Beautiful wine!

Brought to dinner by a friend from his birth year. Quick double decant. Lovely dark cherry, loam and polished teak, juicy mid palate with some tannin on the back end. Quite delicious. Can’t remember having a Brunello quite this old!!

Sadie Family Mev Kirsten 2023.

My wife and I have never got along with Chenin Blanc. We had only really tried Loire so were hopeful this SA take might change our mind. Sadly not … plenty of exotic fruits (pineapple, melon) and citrus on the nose, great acidity, but something about the aftertaste is just not for us. Don’t let me put you off, I’m sure it’s a great wine, just not for us!

It’s getting late in the season for fresh oysters. How were they?

If @Marcus_Goodfellow made Burgundy, this is what I imagine it would be like.

They were great! (Local from Hama Hama) Although I’ve never subscribed to the whole only eat oysters in months that end with r thing. I’m a year round guy myself and never had an issue.

AUSTIN HOPE CABERNET 2022 1L
very good :heart::heart:

They tend to become creamy or milky as the water warms. Around here, Kumamotos can still be good during the warmer months, but I usually steer clear of most others.

Just a gorgeous elegant perfectly judged middle weight. Leoville Barton seems to have a gift in vintages 2004 where they expressthe vintage character with a lovely unforced style. Really good and a peak

I haven’t had this bottle, Chris, but find the Sadie’s Chenin to be unique. Some of their other wines are smashing. Another Swartland Chenin I would check out would be from Mullineux Family. And don’t sleep on the white blends from the Swartland as well which I find to be a notch above the 100% Chenin.

Sounds great Brodie. I found the 2010 a bit forced albeit young.
Your balcony gets a fair work out, but given the view, I can see why!

Yes I can understand the comment on the 2010. I actually think LB does amazingly well in the vintages that are decent / good but considered not truly great.

We have had a really nice autumn and the photo was taken on the 1st day of winter and it was 18 degrees. And yes the view gets some airplay for sure!

I can understand your point of view. I get the the Les Tours Blanc as part of a much bigger Reynaud / Rayas allocation and it is only 2 bottles so I take them and try and drink them younger. The 2020 was last year’s allocation and they are all gone in less than 1 year.

2017 Thierry Jermain Roches Neuves l’Insolite Saumur Blanc. Mature at peak, rich full yellow, wax, lanolin, citrus fruits and a nice acid shaped finish. Drink up, glad this was my 2nd to last bottle

Eleni and Edouard Vocoret - Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux 2019

Never tried this estate before - it was a birthday present a few years ago so I’ve no idea of the price, but it’s a lovely wine, just my sort of Chablis. Hay, lemon and butter on the nose, quite a lemony taste to the attack, crisp and fresh, with a little toast and butter midpalate and then something nutty, hazelnut I think, before the lemon returns for the long finish. Good stuff. 92 pts

Same here, hit 20C today - very unusual. Going to get rough over the weekend though!

LOL no. The significantly-less-glamorous – but occasionally lucrative – world of commercial trial lawyering.

Two wonderful wines in the last couple of days:

  1. 2020 Lagier-Meredith Tribidrag - this was absolutely singing for my tastes, vibrant and fresh and youthful, very much reminds me of the great other Zins from Mt. Veeder zin producers, which goes to show that this is a great spot for Zin. Glad I have another bottle tucked away. @Carole_Meredith

  2. 2022 Extradimensional Ancient Grooves - as usual, @H_Wallace_Jr delivers in the perfume and drinkability department in spades. I don’t know how he does it, but I always get an elevated bouquet out of all his wines. Such a pleasant wine that went excellent with something a little heavier meal in need of some freshness and elegance.
