How was the 05 Drouhin Amoureuses? I’m a fan of the house/Veronique’s wine-making and who doesn’t want a sip of the lovers wine in any vintage?
My limited experience of 05 Burgundies is mixed.
A few 05s were delicious (Drouhin 1er Chambolle blend, MG Vougeot), but most were wound up tight (1ers like Fourrier Cherbaudes, Bouchard enfant Jesus, Maume Champeaux, Dujac CSD [in a Mag tho]).
Recently several nice wines:
2021 Peake Ranch Pinot Noir John Sebastiano Vineyard
2017 Bevan Otogeny
2011 Abreu Madrona Ranch
I enjoyed all three. Although the Abreu was a bit much for me. It was quite good, but I enjoyed drinking with my meal the Bevan and the Peak Ranch. Save the Abreu for sipping. Both the Abreu and Bevan threw a ton of sediment!
Unfortunately this bottle was not representative, while very drinkable, consensus was that it might have been a tad flawed.
Yes, the 2008’s are on the leaner side, would even say a smidgen of green as well. However, unlike the 2011’s, they are more integrated or harmonious with the fruit, while the 2011’s stick out more.
(I Got) The Fever! We went through three bottles of this crisp, lovely, yellow-fruited Chablis today.
And then a decent burgundy recommended by the Somm to pair with a most excellent roasted duck dish.
Quite a lovely view from our table over the village of Bonneaux.
Closed the night with a mix of wine including this classic beauty.
C’est la vie, gents!
Loving these posts. Great ‘cycling trip’ . Some good prep there for an assault on Mt Ventoux! I have liked 2020 Fevres. Keep up the sterling work.
2022 Estate Argyros Assyrtiko
I am in “reap mode” these days, meaning an emphasis on drinking what I have in the cellar. Opened this bottle with our dinner of spaghetti aglio e olio today. Pretty good company, especially not too chilled, where the lemon and other fruit come out to play with the minerals and herbs and the acidity doesn’t dominate. Half the bottle tonight and we will finish the bottle with haddock and a lemon butter and caper sauce at dinner tomorrow. “Pas mal du tout!” as @Phil_T_r_o_t_t_e_r might say (

17 Greer with prime ribeye and kobe filet! Alsp started with the de negoce 549 rose which was very nice. I’d take a picture but it went too fast. Happy Friday
Managed to pick up a 6er of these at the Grand Vin Wine Merchants close out sale for $60 a bottle which is an absolute steal. This producer is so underrated it’s silly. Definitely belongs in the top shelf Meursault conversation, but somehow these wines are still very reasonably priced. Just classic salty mineral goodness with spicy ginger and crisp acidity all framed by perfectly judged oak and just the right amount of reduction on the nose. A banger village wine.
Found this in the back of a shop the other day. Cheap, man. The markup must’ve been from 2004. Not dead! Tired, tertiary, but quite enjoyable tbh.
Drinking wine with friends. My friend‘s wife is trying to argue for Tommy John surgery for their cat. How did the Buekers get admission to my Friday night dinner? The Seaver was great and I’ve got 5 more to follow
Followed these for about four hours, with a good friend, over a proper meal. Absolutely the way I prefer to enjoy wine these days. All three were wonderful, with the Jadot avoiding premox. The Dujac is in a particularly lovely spot at the moment. DRC, which made killer 16s, is a monument of a wine but needs a ton of time.
How do you like ‘le grand clos’? My local shop offers Villeneuve wines but I haven’t tried it yet.
It was good. Second bottle of this vintage and i got the same experience: red-fruited, full of fruit, medium acidity, tamed tannins. No noticeable pyrazine character. The 1999 was much more serious and brooding.
The entry level Saumur-Champigny from Château de Villeneuve used to be a good value play about 10-15 years ago with a little more green bell pepper happening and livelier tannins.
Fan of this producer myself. Will be opening the same and try it with halibut tonight!
- 2018 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Auslese Nr. 87 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (31/5/2025)
Superb Auslese, would have only guessed because of the immense concentration, otherwise the texture seemed like a lower pradikat wine. Terrific acidity for the warm vintage, a very imposing wine in terms of weight and finish. Have enjoyed all the wines from this producer that I bought from a firesale. (93 pts.) - 1995 Château Marquis de Terme - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (31/5/2025)
Still quite austere and tannic, not sure if there is sufficient fruit to outlast the tannins. Also an unripe element to the dark fruit. Not the most refined Bordeaux but a product of its era. (90 pts.)
