Bright, lemony goodness. Bring on the summer.

Wonderful as always. Which unfortunately means I am going through them too quickly

Right out of the gate this “smells like Burgundy” and tastes of ripe black cherries. Dense, a touch salty with a savory, almost meaty plum taste. Bit of reduction and greenbrier; what I think of as forest/woody notes.

Delicious and not shy, keeping a generous balance, it highlights the ripe 09 vintage. If Fourrier Gevrey CSJ and Lafarge Volnay Clos de Ducs had a baby, you might get this Drouhin Petits Monts.

Oh Hello.

Tasty crisp minerality meets a welcome touch of dosage in a happy marriage. Some of Laherte’s entry-level non-dosage Brut Nature wines have been hit or miss for me, leaning hard into the acid.

But not this vintage Crayères Extra Brut. It wakes up your palate-tasty to the bottom of the bottle. Everything I hope for in a BdB.

2022 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre “ La Côte des Monts Damnés”
My kind of wine. A dry wine with rich almost sweet lemon fruit, chalky minerality, and a pleasant and balanced edge of herbal bitterness. I suppose life would be boring if you were to drink only this wine, but it would not be bad. Not bad at all.
Very recommended.

Tasty Etna Rosso. This is one of those wines that fan out on the finish and have sneaky volume, whilst remaining calm and approachable.

2022 Felettig Vosne Romanee VV

Pop n’ pour. Initially some mixed spices of clove, cinnamon, and white pepper with undertones of sweet black raspberry, black currant, and plum on the nose. After a couple hours of air the fruit comes into focus on the nose and supercedes the Vosne spice. Full bodied and concentrated on the palate with mostly purple fruit and earthy minerals, but a little one dimensional. Powdery tannins provide some nice structure, could use a little more acidity for my palate.

Will see how this is in the days ahead. Opened 2022 Felettig Chambolle Musigny VV earlier this week and it was much better on day 2.

A thoroughly enjoyable 2012 Belle Pente Estate Reserve. Lively, mature fruit.

@Adam_Frisch what is the blend here? Tasting this again tonight with a bit more focus, and it’s got such a unique flavor profile.

I had his single contrada Chardonnay recently and it was excellent. Sicilian Chardonnay has a character all its own.

Drank beautifully.

Hey Carlo!

It’s basically 1/3 Chardonnay, 1/3 PicPoul and 1/3 Riesling.

With friends this past weekend, one of whom is a chef whose homemade lamb, pitas, and spreads were the real stars of the show. A fun look at a few 21s and some new-to-me producers in Gerard Mugneret and Drouhin-Laroze. The Copinet and Marc Colin were a great way to get things started.

JM Vincent Les Gravières was very textural, excellent length, a pleasure to drink. It disappeared fast! Has the structure for aging but fun now. The Mugneret NSG Aux Cras was quite reticent when I opened it a few hours before dinner. It showed much more savory, sous bois, with a green note (idk if this is typical for this wine or due to 21 vintage) that thankfully softened with air—this wine needs time. The Drouhin-Laroze CDV was pretty accessible, bright cherries and tangy acids. Palate had weight without being heavy, nice wine after some initial VA blew off.

EWCY SCM Merlot got opened a bit later in the night so a bit less detail—a pleasurable mid-weight merlot, all of the fun without being weighed down. A nice night.

My friends are back in Montreal so we took a few days to reset our systems: plenty of vegetables, no wine and a lot of water. Reset done.

Friday evening with my wife and the boys and we wanted a white wine we both enjoy and don’t need to analyze. Here comes:

Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos Tris de Chavigne 2016
We both love this. Amazing nose with ripe fruit and plenty of florals. No reduction. Great texture, dense, chewy up until a good saline and citrus cut that brings on a long finish on the same ripe fruits and spices. Serious yet joyful. Complex yet gulpable. Very fine wine.

A wine dinner focused on some “new” producers in Burgundy.

The red Guilbert-Gillet and the Benoit Moreau were my favorites of the night.

This is such a pretty delicate middle weight Brunello. Feels burgundian with florals, mouthfeel and fine silky tannins. Clearly a Brunello in flavour profile. Very accessible right now in a charming youthful way

2005 JL Chave Crozes-Hermitage Silene. We got lucky with this bottle; still in good shape and where it should be.
