Delicious. Green apple. Nice acidity. Dryer than I expected. Always like their wines
very nice Pinot double blind tasting - very different wines, lot of fun
Crazy L’arlot 2021 tastes so nice already now
We’ve bookmarked this place, which we didn’t know of before, as a possibility when we are there next month. Thanks!
Heading over to my friends’ home for some dinner. The 2009 is the second one opened (first was corked).
A comparison of 2017s. The Ceritas is much more red fruit and seemingly young. The Walter Scott is very roasted/toasted flavors — mocha, baking spice, a bit of sesame. Both great but very different.
We drank well this weekend.
Deeply rich and autolytic after 84 months sur lees. The bouquet opens with complex layers of citrus, particularly blood orange, alongside ripe stone fruits and white floral notes. The creamy texture is balanced by vibrant acidity. Exceptional as always, and a favorite of mine among Egly-Ouriet’s cuvées, second only to Les Crayères. Disgorged July 2020, based on the 2012 vintage.
Intoxicating aromas and a luxurious texture. Creamy notes of lemon and orange with hints of ginger and mineral. Precise cut and fine bead balance its lush profile. A long, beautiful finish.
Opens with a touch of flinty reduction that quickly gives way to vibrant lime notes, followed by a subtle pine nuance. Beautifully layered, deep and elegant.
I am using a long visit of my wife’s French friend to open USA wines more frequently than usual. ( BTW, like fish indeed!)
2018 Hartford Court Old Vin Zinfandel Russian River Valley. Rich fruit, brooding and energetic at the same time. Spicy. The ABV is up there but the wine is balanced and delicious. A winner!
2019 Scherrer OMV (Old & Mature Vine) Zinfandel Alexander Valley I love the different take on Zin that these wines offer. I had a 2018 a while ago that reminded me more of Pinot Noir than Zinfandel. This 2019 is richer fruited and more intense in flavor profile, but is still far from the stereotypical Zin. Pinot Noir did not jump to mind, but each new glassful seemed to offer different nuanced and delicious dimensions. A winner!
P.S. Scherrer puts their telephone number on the cork. By the second glass I was ready to give him a call to tell him how much we were enjoying his wine.
I absolutely hated a bottle of Domaine Drouhin WV Pinot Noir last year, so was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. An elegant style with high acidity balancing the juicy Pinot fruit, nascent earthy complexity, and a resonant finish.
Would like to see the alcohol dialed back a bit, but it was well hidden. Good value.
I have not had the 2022, but I have enjoyed nearly every vintage of the RoseRock Pinot Noir since they started making it (2015?). And for the same reasons that you mention, Scott.
Sharpening your pencils in the sweatshirt you wore by last night’s campfire. Plus late-arriving fruit. Yum.
such a spot on note and puts me right there. Cheers. The 2012 is a personal favorite SM
2015 Château Brown
Not a wine I am very familiar with, bought in Paris in 2020 between lockdowns.
On opening mature medium garnet, moderate nose of tobacco and blackcurrant, sweet fruit and no tannin lifted by acidity. Filled out just a tad over an hour. A pleasing and not overripe or over extracted 2015.****-.
Pencils and campfire I can handle. Sweatshirt not so much
2019 ‘Mineral’ from Emrich-Schönleber is banging right now, though I bet a few more years would put it in the perfect place. I had the 2021 Frülungsplatzschen GG the other day, which to me was a remarkably brisk and yet still intense and concentrated wine. This 2019 Mineral, on the other hand, felt like the few years in the bottle had resolved it more. That GG shouldn’t have been opened for at least 4-5 more years, minimum…but I’m not complaining
2008 myriad las madras syrah - terrific and elegant
2010 canalicchio brunello - brooding and maybe drying out
