What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

looks like a liver experiment :joy:

Importer in town and we hosted a dinner. Couple of single blinds to go with the rest of the lineup

Domaine de Muzy Pinot Noir 2022, IGP Cotes de Meuse.

Exploring new frontiers. Well, not exactly: as it turns out Donald Pennet has been ahead of the game and is selling those. The Mosel is not far away so potentially of interest to the red Mosel wine drinkers.
Fresh, rich, smooth. Explosive florals and cassis on the nose. Best drunk lightly chilled. Lots of pinot pleasure for relatively little euros.

Loved it! Might be my WOTY so far

German Savagnin!

This needed a ton of air to really get going. But on day three it is singing. 16€… ridiculous value and just a really good wine overall.

Ormiale Presse
2021, all Merlot, vinified in small glass vessels. Zero inputs. Didn’t undergo malo. 194 bottles

Inky purple, powerful with some grippy tannins. Very bright tangy fruit. Very primary and spicy now.

(Disclaimer - we sell this, are friends with the owner and are helping harvest tomorrow).

What style would you say this is close to in terms of the Jurassic savagnins?

That is the same photo, isn’t it?

Thats a tough one because it is a mix of 90% ‘ouillé’ and 10% thats been raised under veil. It is a NV wine. I have a hard time placing it close to any specfic producer or style. It drinks like a colder vintage from Jura, but I would certainly guess Jura.

It actually felt less and less oxidative as time passed. On day three it drank more like a ‘ouillé’ version that had just a touch of oxidative notes.

If you can find any in the US, then it is certainly worth trying out this recent bottling (I think they used less SO2 previously). Just decant it first.

2003 Pavie. @Robert.A.Jr pray for me

This is actually amusing, as in an hour I’ll be having the 2005 Cos.

Very interesting - ‘luckily’ I don’t live in the US so I can find it more cheaply in the EU… except for the attractive price would you pick this over lower-tier Jura?

2019 Zilliken Saarburger Riesling Kabinett
This bottle was in a great place this evening for us as we enjoyed a glass with our haddock dinner. A remarkable transformation from previous bottles over the past three or four years. Started out a few years back as almost too energetically acidic, and has moved toward diminishing acid and increased fruit and subtle complexity with subsequent bottles. Tonight’s glass showed a charming, ethereal delicacy and freshness, with a lingering fruit taste that I will lamely call apple, but is more than that. Beautiful balance.
Very Recommended
P.S. I may return for another small glass later this evening . . .

Lovely if somewhat youthful. HN elegance and purity on show here.

Yes I would pick it up over most other Jura Savagnin close to this price range. The Chardonnay is really good as well.
