What bottle of wine did you open today? (Part 2)

1994 Robert Ampeau Meursault 1er Cru la Piece Sous le Bois

Got a good bottle of this one thankfully. Aromas of wet stone, mushrooms and toast. Lovely buttery and nutty taste with a waxy, long finish. Superb! Outstanding!

2014 Produttori del Barbaresco Pora Riserva

Drinking really well already in a youthful way. Deep core of dark fruits and well behaved tannins. Im sure this gets technically better with further age, but Im enjoying it already.

White Burgundy roulette and Erlend for the win! Well done. Sounds amazing. Cheers :wine_glass:

We had dinner with the kids before heading for Europe. Too busy socializing to take detailed notes.

2018 Sivilli Sparkling Wine - Dry, would like a little more zing but very good. Tom Sivilli is the assistant winemaker at Cameron.

2016 Walter Scott X-Novo Chardonnay - Superb. Great balance.

2016 Goodfellow Durant Chardonnay - Excellent as well.

2017 Tronquoy Lalande - More non-fruit oriented. Much better with dinner (Moroccan lamb)

2014 Domaine Eden - Just what I’m looking for in a Cabernet. Good balance between fruit and earthier elements. This will probably be better in a few more years, but drinking great right now. A real bargain in California Cab.

Just opened a 2007 Dehlinger Goldridge Vineyard - 33 Year Old Vines. Popped and poured. No sediment to speak of. Beautiful color, and gorgeous nose from the get-go. Should go well with braised lamb shanks over pappardelle.

Yet another night where everything was running on all cylinders, but the marrow and snails were next level.

From this weekend, didn’t have time to upload til now.

The Bellavista Franciacorta had a nice lightness to it, at the expense of forceful flavor notes. I enjoyed the relative sophistication and complexity over most Prosecco.

I was expecting the 1998 VCC to blow the 2004 Palmer out of the water — bigger, deeper, etc — and it didn’t. In fact a majority favored the Palmer slightly on the grounds that the finish was more complete.

The 1994 Taylor - what can I say? It’s already great with a 6 hr decant but hardly budged after a day. Structured like a street lamp, this is going to be unforgettable in the fullness of time. Enjoyable now it much better to wait. A lot.

Not pictured : a basic 2022 Roilette Fleurie that I picked up at a LWS. Too young of course but delicious anyway. Not the same length as the Clos de Griffe - but I just love these. Gamay, all is forgiven.

“Well that didn’t suck.”

I love Ursules and this was a stunning example, fully alive and kicking at age 38.

Love this. These wines do really need time.

That still looks pretty young in the photo.

Yes. Fairly structured too, not really drinking like a 2009. Not yet in what I call an exciting place, maybe circle back in 3-5.

Never seen a Jadot Richebourg. How was it?
What year was the Albanian Convento?

This tracks with my experience of it about a year and a half ago.

funny as we were discussing exactly that.

heard they are DRC vines cause Jadot doesn’t own any.

Of course a hot year but Jadot did well in 2003.

Very ripe but enjoyable

This is an interesting wine from Tenerife, You can almost taste the volcano. There’s dark fruits, smoke, hot bitumen but somehow it remains light on its feet, with a silky feel. Pretty good really.

The best Veglio that I have seen. Looking in a great spot, classic Barolo with real drive, and all hard edges rounded off.
