What BEER are you drinking? (Part 2)

I have tried to sample that one several times. but always seem to miss the window of release before it sells out. If you head this way, the Cowiche Canyon itself is a hidden treasure. Lovely easy walk/hike along an abandoned railway path. Also side hikes UP!, including to a winery, for a bit more adventure. Snakes often present. The Hops farm is at the East entrance to Cowiche Canyon, accessible from the Yakima side. We enter usually from the Cowiche side, so don’t make it to the hop farm.

This was great! And expensive.

Drinking through these. Have to admit, either the confirmation bias has worn off a little or my tastes are changing. Doesn’t have the mouthfeel of old Pliny, nor does it have the underlying sweetness that went so well with the bitter hops.

Concur Andrew, this fell flat for me, not a bad beer but I’ll take regular Pliny over this everyday. And they weren’t bashful on pricing !

Cheers,

Bud

What was the pricing on it?

$121.79 OTD, so roughly $10/can. My brother was on the same page re: Pliny for President, and he drinks more of the RRB IPAs than I do, living down in Walnut Creek.

:face_with_peeking_eye: whoa!!:flushed: I’ve never had an IPA that was so particularly special I’d pay $10 per can more than once for it.

Nice to see a Crooked Stave.
I have not seen one for years.

Went from couldn’t get them and would pay most anything, to ok Ohio here you go (at insane pricing) …to disappearing.

That color looks … good?

I hear ya’ about not seeing Crooked Stave around anymore … it’s been years, until I saw this 2016 sitting on the shelves of that same store where I say the Boon Geuze discovery pack, old Logsdon, and a bunch of other goodies.

The beer in my picture is quite turbid because it was the last pour from the bottle. Prior pours were crystalline clear. The color was impressively young, quite frankly.

I grabbed a mixed pack of Firestone IPAs. I used to enjoy Firestone but these are all pretty thin, bland, and boring.

I have not had that one, but have had a lot of their beer. Was it expensive due to shipping or retail price?

Purchases July 2016. I believe they have five year best buy dates, so produced in 2014. Very tasty.

sadly the smaller of the two!
:berserker:

Retail price. Found it in a CA store that’s loaded with sours, some with more attractive pricing than others.

Holy Mountain Primordial Sky DIPA.

I think even @Scott_Tallman could drink this one!

Anyone besides enjoy the Mad Fritz beers? I think they are fantastic and haven’t yet had a bad beer. Personally I like the Jupiter and the Camel Pilsner Lager is one of my favorites. The Eagles Nest, Mad Fritz’s DIPA is also quite good (and I’m not usually a DIPA guy). One thing that Mad Fritz does is they know where all their ingredients come from. They have barley grown specifically for them (or go find small farms). They then malt the grains themselves for some of the grains (they also use Admiral Maltings in Alameda). Of course the hops are all sourced from known growers and sometimes Mad Fritz will get experimental hop varietys that are being cultivated, some of which never make it to market. They go further though in that the keep track of the water source (Calistoga well water, St. Helena Tap water, Larkmead lane well water, …). Bottles are 785ml swing top (like the Grolsch bottles except larger). Here’s a pitchure of a pair of standard bottles and a 3.1L swingtop of The Eagles Nest DIPA (bringing this bottle to a party "Shows You Care :joy: ). The bottle on the left is a Ringdove and the Hunter (Porter) and the bottle on the right is a Larks in the Corn (Blue Corn Pale Ale made with Lewelling Spring Water)

Hadn’t heard. Looks neat

This is a Nile Zacherle and Whitney Fisher project (winemakers for David Arthur and Fisher Vineyards). I haven’t tried the beers, but Mad Fritz coffee is excellent!

That is correct, Nile is the brew master and driving force behind Mad Fritz (a conjunction of his children’s names, Madeline and Fritz). I recommend going to the taproom in Yountville on washington next to Jessup Cellars and across from the Restoration Hardware restaurant
