What are you opening for the Jewish New Year?

I was going to ask this on the other forum, but another member beat me to it so I figure I’d post it here.

Well, I’ve been stockpiling Kosher wine for the holidays for months. We have 2008 Covenant Cab we picked up in Napa. A couple of the Red C covenent cabs, 2004 Baron Rothschild kosher bordeaux, 2009 Dalton Sauvignon Blanc Reserve, Galil Mountain Winery Yiron Kosher cab, 2007 Recanati reserve Cab, and 2005 Hevron Heights CS Issac’s Ram. There were some good bordeaux at the store… 03 and 04 Pontet Canet I believe, that were kosher runs but way too $$$

I also have a 2007 Covenant CS, 2 more 2008 Red C cabs and two 2009 Red C SB’s coming from Lot 18…

Just a thought… what pairs well with gefilte fish? Chopped liver? Never thought of that till now…

For gefilte fish, I would say riesling. Not a chopped liver eater.

We are not having Kosher wines for Rosh Hashanah - we only do that for Passover. I am thinking of a German riesling for the white and a Jadot 2007 SlB les Narbontons for the red.

05 Saxum JB is on the menu for tonight.

Magnum of 2007 CdP.

Probably best to decant before you head to shul.

I have no idea what I’m opening because I haven’t a clue what’s for dinner tonight. I’m kind of an idiot in that way.

2005 Barthod Bourgogne

It may sound surprising, but many light, aromatic whites are spot on with liver. Dry Muscat might be the perfect pairing.

Cheers,
Bill

Kosher icewine from Hafner. Oh yeah!

The only white kosher wine I have is the Dalton SB Reserve. I was thinking of stopping at Total for the Yarden late harvest wine. Maybe they have a Muscat there…

Thanks

A Volcanic Merlot from Israel.

2000 Arcadian Garys Syrah to go with the brisket.

2005 McPrice Myers Viognier for the white wine lovers and for the gefilte fish…
שנה טובה ומתוקה

Is it too late to change my vote?

last night:
2009 Kongsgaard Vio Rus (delish with apples and honey and then a roasted eggplant soup)
2004 Agharta Syrah (Chicken roasted with black olives, lemons and sage)

2006 Copain Thompson Vineyard Syrah
2005 Havens Black and Blue

2008 Pride Cab Franc in reserve

I need to go downstairs and find something that my in-laws will not consider “dry”. Based on their definition, it rules out about 98% of my cellar.

A Herzog Cabernet.

I do not go in for Kosher wines for lots of reasons, principally because I find the reasons behind them offensive, although I have drunk many of them, written about them, and have a few in my collection. So today after my entire family - My mother, three kids, three husbands and all six grandchildren, sat down with a dozen others for lunch, we opened:

2007 Guigal Gigondas; A-
2002 Termes; B
2008 Two Hands Charlie’s Patch Cabernet; A
2005(?) Ridge Nervo Zinfandel - did not taste.

We have generally paired a well-aged chardonnay with Gefilte fish. The best I had was a 2000 Scholium Les Tenebres with real home made gefilte fish about 3 years ago. A nice minerally Chablis works fine regardless of age.

Chopped liver - I do not recall every drinking wine with it. I’m thinking Chateauneuf or toher southern Rhone with mostly grenache that is channeling strong raspberry. The 2007 Guidal Gigondas we had today would have been good with it, but my sister went with brisket and kugel with no chopped liver.
