What are the five greatest 'New World' wines you have ever had the pleasure of drinking?

Heart Chorea
The Other Hand
2005 alban lorraine
98 grange
07 Maybach

1969 Heitz Martha’s
1975 Caymus SS Cabernet
1978 Diamond Creek Lake
1978 Diamond Creek RRT
1973 Ridge Geyserville

I’m not too good at these “best all-time” lists, but here goes (in no particular order):

'77 Phelps Insignia
'92 Dominus
'95 Togni
'94 Dominus
'08 Rhys Skyline PN

1991 Dominus
1992 Penfolds Grange
1987 Shafer Hillside Select
1991 Ridge Monte Bello
2001 Smith Madrone Riesling

Still going with the 97 or 99 HSS (I can’t recall which it was)
05 Alban Lorraine
05 SQN Atlantis
? Rhys Swan Terrace
06 Schrader CCS

A Saxum Bonerock fits in there somewhere too, but again, I don’t recall the vintage. I need to take better note of my noteworthy wines…

1994 Dominus
1973 Mayacamas Cab
1986 Heitz Martha’s
2005 Scarecrow
1992 Harlan

1991 Dominus
1994 Dominus

1990 Dominus
1987 Dominus

All multiple times

Plus - Lindemans 1959 Bin 1590, Bindi Quartz Chardonnay 2011 and BV 1968 George de Latour.

1991 Dominus
1997 Screaming Eagle
1970’s Ridge Montebello at Bern’s. It was early 70’s
1977 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard
1980 Grange Hermitage

1986 Penfolds Grange
1978 Phelps Eisele
1978 Heitz Martha’s
1994 SHS
1986 Insignia

Lots of cabs on these lists. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it is such a generic grape.

2007 Carlisle Montafi Zin (only one bottle left, sigh)
2008 Rhys Skyline Pinot (shockingly great)
2005 SQN Ode to E Syrah (my fave during my brief SQN fling)
1991 Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cab (like drinking Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies)
1998 Fox Creek Reserve Shiraz (man I drank a ton of Shiraz back in the day)

Interesting to see the unicorn Penfolds Bin 60A pop up a couple times. Nice work! I’m holding my precious 2 bottles of the 2004 version for a while yet.

1991 Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet. Still a baby last year.
1994 Dominus. My first wow moment with Napa.
1991 Wynns Centenary Cab-Shiraz. A classic.
2005 Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay. Blind, against an absolutely stellar lineup and in front of a knowledgeable crowd, it was WOTN by a fair margin. Power and precision.
2006 Escarpment Kupe Pinot. Good Martinborough pinot (and there’s a fair number of them - love the Martinborough Estate call) is a perfect palate match for me.

Looking forward to getting into my slowly growing stash of Wendouree in coming years.

Fun thread, thanks.

Wasn’t that '07 Maybach fantastic? TRB hit that one out of the park. The '09 wasn’t shabby either.

1991 Monte Bello
1971 Ridge york Creek Petite Syrah
1997 Lokoya Mt. Veeder
1995 Insignia
1978 Caymus SS

next tier…
2006 Rhys Alpine Pinot
2001 Stony Hill Chardonnay
1996 Tom Eddy Cabernet reserve
1984 Monte Bello
1996 Monte Bello

Order of preference for my Maybach Materiums:
2006
2004
2010
2005
2009
2008
2007

Mike is missing the '07 gene

1974 Heitz Martha’s (sentimental reasons and because it is very good)
2001 Dominus
2002 SNQ Just for the Love of it
2001 Pride Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
1994 Harlan
1997 Harlan
1975 Phelps Eisele Cabernet Sauvignon
2001 Abreu Thorevillos
1978 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon (Hillside but not mentioned on the label)
2001 Shafer Hillside Select

I recently had a '10 and enjoyed it tremendously.
