Weygandt Wines in DC Closed!

I realize this is old news but it’s new to me. Anyone know what happened or where Warren landed?

I’ll tag along as I was curious as well.

Wasn’t there a thread on this months ago?

Yes, I asked Warren where he was going next but he declined to say. Warren said it wasn’t in the wine business.

Warren is a good dude. I’m glad he landed on his feet.

From a local listserve, where this letter/note from Peter Weygandt was posted:

“When we opened our shop 15 years ago, we hoped at best to be a fixture in DC. To our joy, what we received was a community that stretched beyond borders and wine. Our objective was and has always been to offer wines and service of integrity and quality.

For much of the last decade Warren Leonard has been the face of this part of our business. Warren came to us in 2011 and grew in knowledge and trust to run our store for the past 7 years. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the value that Warren has brought to the business. For that reason, it brings us sadness to announce his decision to pursue a new chapter in his life. We wish him, our dear friend, all and only the best, and hope to remain as close as we have become these last 13 years.

The announcement of Warren’s resignation corresponds in time with the end of our lease and the point at which to renew it if we choose. With reflection upon the void of Warren’s extraordinary leadership and personality, and the challenges of negotiating with new building ownership, we have decided to conclude the Weygandt Wines chapter.

We are not doing this of necessity, but because the time is right to do it on our own terms. Weygandt Wines shop will close at the end of April, but rest assured, Weygandt-Metzler will continue to have a presence in the DC/Maryland area through our distribution partner Prestige Ledroit. Over the coming 6+ weeks, we look forward to celebrating our 15 years of success with you and announce opportunities to continue enjoying our wines.

This announcement would not be complete without the expression of our deep and sincere appreciation to each and every one of you—our valued customers and friends in the enjoyment of special wines.”
