Here are more details on the wines featured in this offer:
2012 Aglianico (91 Points, Wine Enthusiast)
Fruit sourced from Taniguchi Vineyard in Fowler, CA and Novavine Vineyard in Yolo County, CA. The Taniguchi Vineyard is our family vineyard comprised of 90+ year old Thompson Seedless vines with a 1-acre portion grafted to Aglianico (Clones VCR7 and VCR2). Novavine Vineyard is in the Dunnigan Hills area of Yolo County. These two vineyard sources pair magically together. Yin and Yang. Chocolate covered cherries smashed into the underbrush.
Fruit sourced from Taniguchi Vineyard, Fowler, CA and Heringer Estates Vineyard, Clarksburg CA. This wine is both powerful and smooth with a tame tannic backbone for an Aglianico. Approachable now, this wine also has tremendous aging potential. Hints of Morello cherry skins give way to black licorice on the palate.
Fruit sourced from Taniguchi Vineyard, Fowler, CA and Heringer Estates Vineyard, Clarksburg CA. Polished and beautifully fresh and racy, this wine has a lifted nose of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. Simmering acidity with tame tannins. Subtle notes of toast, game and hibiscus tea. This wine is very velvety due to weeks of post fermentation maceration.
2013 Teroldego (89 Points, Wine Enthusiast)
Fruit sourced from Heringer Estates Vineyard in Clarksburg, CA. An extremely rare varietal even in its native Italy and even more uncommon and scarce around our parts of the New World. Deep dark and structured. Concentrated with hints of juniper berries and dried herbs yet surprisingly supple and light on its feet. A dark viscous beauty.
Fruit sourced from Heringer Estates Vineyard in Clarksburg, CA. This is a soft silky wine that shows great balance and structure. On the nose, there are aromas of subtle rose petals framed by blackberries and tea leaf. At the center, there is a bit of chewiness. Earth, leather and cacao.
Colorfield Volume 1
Colorfield is an unconventional blend made up primarily of Petite Sirah (co-fermented with Viognier) and Sangiovese. Aglianico, Teroldego, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Viognier and Zinfandel make up the rest. Some wines cellared up to 30 months in barrel. Some wines saw extended maceration for up to 70 days on skins. A wine very close to our heart here at West of Temperance…a blend that allows us to draw from incongruous elements to create a truly complete wine.
2012 Pinot Noir (90 Points, Wine Enthusiast)
Fruit sourced from the Rio Vista Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara. Located at the south-eastern edge of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation 22 miles from the coast. Comprised of Dijon Clones 115 and 667 our Pinot Noir is a silky beauty. Hints of salinity give way to cinnamon, soy…umami.
2013 Pinot Noir
Fruit sourced from the Rio Vista Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara. Blend of Dijon 115 and 667 clones along with Swiss Wadenswil 2A. This wine exhibits flavors of spicy Bing cherries poured over flinty pencil shavings. Lifted nose of spice cake and rhubarb framed with a simmering acidity.
2014 Pinot Noir
Fruit sourced from the Rio Vista Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills, Santa Barbara. Blend of Dijon 115 and 667 clones along with Swiss Wadenswil 2A. A nicely polished wine showing generous hints of cinnamon stick, allspice and orange peel. This Pinot Noir is classy, it is all about slow, cool, strutting confidence.
Fruit sourced from Upper Block of Poor Ranch above the Sanel Valley in Hopland Mendocino. At 1,785 feet elevation with its red volcanic soils, this Zinfandel was planted to St. George rootstock in 1945. These massive old head trained, dry farmed mountain vines are also certified organic. Crushed plums and sage frame this deeply concentrated wine.
2013 Petite Sirah
Fruit sourced from Giannechinni Ranch, Mendocino County. Old Vine Heritage planting from 1952. Rich and full bodied with bristling acids and light minerals. This Petite Sirah has high toned aromas of blue fruits and cassis. Massive structure gives way to a finish that goes on and on. We suspect this one to age for many years to come even though it is drinking very well right now. Give this a little air and you will be rewarded.
Merlot fruit sourced from Yountville, Napa Valley. Grown in the cooler part of Napa closer to the Carneros edge. This Medium bodied Merlot has a dense core of textured juicy red currants. Soft, round tannins accentuate the ample acids here. On the long finish, we catch a few winks of nutmeg, clove and mocha.
