Kha,
This is a most excellent recap of domestic sparklers. Any post that includes Goodfellow and Cabot is always welcome as I have both in my cellar.
Iām going to have to go back to my consortium for additional funding, but this one is worth it.
Ana,
Iām a big fan of both. This was the 1st Iāve had the Ora de Plata. The resting on the lees adds a level of complexity I fell in love with.
I hope others will give it a try.
I left out a bunch of champagne and magnums because I got no space so lucky you!
Does this count? 2022 Extradimensional Wine Co Yeah! Mind Left Body MourvĆØdre has 15% skin contact Chardonnay in it.
We took a break from Advent abstinence because (a) dinner was delayed because our kid was late getting back from an event (b) this might help promote the EWCY! Holiday gift pack sale (c) we might qualify to have another entry for this excellent charity idea and (d) there is a precedent in a short interruption in Lent (third week ā roughly the same proportional part of the journey here)
Man was this good. From CT review:
Yeah! Didnāt do the usual decant but just popped and poured. Very strong cranberry, surprising amount of acidity, a pithy sour note at the back. Just feels like a hand picking up a bunch of grapes or maybe a pomegranate and just squeezing it til the juice runs. With about a half hour of air this settles down into another rambunctiously fun. EWCY! blend ā cranberry/ raspberry, raw venison, citrus pith. For now 1 hr decant recommended.
Score: 93. Relative to expectations: ++
John,
For sure it counts. Chardonnay blends are in.
Hardy is a master at blends. My two favorites are the Summer Salters Rose and Full King Crab White.
Thanks for posting
Yeah!
2020 Sylvain Langoureau Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumaux
Iāll start by mentioning that I used to buy these with more confidence (-2015) as some of the more recent vintages teeter the premox edge a little too closely for me. I am trying to drink these on the early side but not wanted to miss the benefits of development completely. These in the past have always struck such a value for me in experiencing 1er Cru plots. That said, this is a bit more mature than I would hope for right now but the caliber of the vineyard is on full display. Beautiful weight aromatically and texturally without being sweet. As if a wave saturates the sand and comes rushing back to sea to dry it all out again. I love this sensation. Ripe Meyer lemon, orange oil and macadamia nut. The depth and pedigree is on display. Delicious, though I wish advancement wouldnāt be this far along. I havenāt given up on grabbing a couple these every year though I wonder if stylistically if something is changing, global warming or simply provenance of importer perhaps.
Thanks Chris. Always a worry trying to walk the age line on white burg. Many producers seemed to have addressed it with Diam.
Thank you Tony for continuing the good vibes.
Missed this thread earlier so lucky I got in under the wire:
The 2018 Ladd Cellars Cuvee Voile Chardonnay is not only an expertly balanced Chardonnay drinking very young at age 7, its also beautifully balanced with Jura-inspired sous voile aging. The flor notes are Just Right, adding a delicious salted almond skin and a tiny bit of sherried butterscotch to complement the fresh golden apple and preserved lemon flavors. The acid is juicy without being shrill. It really worked great with our homemade Red Kuri Squash soup, refreshing and savory. Worth seeking out!
The last day FOMO drove me back to another white Burgundy to close out.
2018 Antoine Jobard Saint Aubin 1er āSur le Sentier du Clousā
Medium yellow-gold color. Lemon, apple, pineapple on the nose. Still not fully rounded out on the palate with apple and Meyer lemon dominating. Some mineral notes show up in the finish. While the fruit profile says solar vintage, the wine itself is very restrained and I expect some further development with a few more years in the cellar. Normal cork closure with a hard wax seal and havenāt had any premox on the handful of bottles Iāve sampled from A. Jobard.
Cheers,
fred
Well written note, Jason.
A unique method and expression. I have a bottle of the 2019 vintage of the Voile in my cellar.
Excellent Fred. Lots of different white bread eggs villages showed up on the thread.
I LOVE THIS
Spell check lurks at all times.

Delicious.

Seiber blinded a Ladd 2017 Voile on Monday.
Paired against a 2021 Rivers Marie Platt Chardonnay
Excellent wines!!
Sneaking in at the very last minute with a humble glass of 2023 Martin Ray Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. This is a nice baseline chard, especially for the price - pear, lemon, citrus pith, medium body, just enough acid. No great complexity, but you could do much worse for $15.
Thanks Bret. You have the last brick in the wall this time around.
Terrific response everyone.
Thanks for Participating
