Hello! I live in Washington DC and I am looking to join a tasting group in the district. I am open to ones that are held in peoples homes as well as restaurants or going to wineries/classes together.
Right now I have some certifications but I am mainly drinking my wine with friends (who I love) that don’t always appreciate what is in the glass. I have a very specific knowledge set right now but would like to broaden it by tasting with people rather than studying!
I live in McLean, VA and have never really been able to get on something like this despite looking. Before I lived in Fairlington. Then kids happened and I got too busy, started buying cheaper wines and doing cocktails more.
I have a small wine group that gets together about once a month at my house in Fairfax City. It is VERY relaxed but we always welcome new friends. Right now it’s a guys night (most of us are probably in our 40’s, married with kids, etc).
Basic format is, we choose some kind of theme and everyone brings a bottle to share. There is no price minimum but the expectation is you’ll bring something that you put some time/thought/effort into sourcing, not just a random bottle from the grocery store. Several of us really enjoy cooking (couple of professional chefs in the group) so we also use this as a chance to show off to a group that appreciates it. Those that don’t like to cook, they grab cheese or something at the store on the way in.
If this sounds up your alley, let me know and you’re welcome to join the next one (30 Sep). Theme is Sauvignon Blanc (from any region). Not my favorite group, but I’m trying to expand my horizons! None of us have any sort of professional knowledge, but everyone is pretty well traveled, enjoys wine, and a good group of friends.
Hi JeremyR, does your group still get together? I’m an almost 40 year old in your area looking for a wine group with decent taste in wine willing to discuss it and to always get better at it.
